After receiving an insane amount of emails regarding dressing for your body type, I created not only a brand new style series but a brand new to match!
Yep, I was recording the YouTube series, and I was like OMG these videos are like 30 minutes long – EACH. I pulled out the big guns for you guys. Full on lessons, models, the whole shebang. In the end, it was far too much content for YouTube, so I decided to create a little companion piece.
For the next few weeks you will get to watch a sampling of the program on YouTube. Consider these your appetizer, and the program is the full 5-course meal.
No pressure to buy the program, but if you like what you see on YouTube consider taking the plunge. . I should probably add that with the program you get all of the videos at once!! So you can speed ahead of the YouTube series. BOOM!
So without further adieu, the first video of the series.
Last week I was on KTLA styling a Dodger’s Fashion Show!
Let me start by saying this, I know nothing about baseball. The last time I watched a baseball game was in 2004. I was forced to go for a team building outing at AOL (I used to work there.)
Even though I’m not a baseball fan, I am always a fan of fashion. So I got to work.
I shopped the usual haunts – Big 5 and Fanzz for your run of the mill fan gear.
Then I hit Nordstrom Rack for some everyday items like jackets, belts, tops, etc. When it comes to stylishly supporting your team, you’ve got to mix and match.
I really scored when some local Etsy sellers came through with their unique gear. Rosen Design Apparel contributed their skull tee shirts and INI Creations with their I Love LA tanks.
Of course no fashion show is complete without a full on Dodger’s uniform look. So I re-created Justin Turner’s look (beard and all) with the help of Amazon.
Such a fun time! Thanks for having me back on the show KTLA.
When I first started working with Sayeh, she was living in leggings. Like, seriously, that’s all she wore.
My biggest challenge with Sayeh was getting her to see who she was. She alternated between hiding (in those damn leggings) and trying to become a walking Pinterest board in looks that were so not her.
Her transformation wasn’t an overnight thing; we worked to gradually her to a place where she loves the way she looks.
There used to be a time when only the rich and famous had access to their own stylist. These days, everyday men and women can have a personal stylist in their hometown or online.
The question then becomes, “How do I know if I need a stylist?”
Today’s video is meant to be light and fun, but it will also help you determine if a stylist is something you should look into.
You might need a stylist if …
You HATE Shopping
If the idea of shopping or stepping inside a mall gives you anxiety, then you might need a stylist. Instead of wasting your time, energy, and money (on unworn purchases) – outsource it! There are talented stylists out there who want to do this work for you.
People Are Commenting On Your Looks But In A Negative Way
Now and then someone is going to stay something nasty and uncalled for about your looks – ignore that. However, if the majority of people have negative things to say about your overall appearance, it might be time to pay attention.
You Regularly Have Closet Meltdowns
I recently read a study that called these little meltdowns “wardrobe rage” – ouch! If you are regularly having some sort of tantrum in your closet because you hate everything, nothing fits, etc., then get yourself a stylist stat!!
Watch the video to discover a few more reasons you might need a personal stylist.
I talk a lot about perception and how taking note of how people perceive you is an important ingredient to your success in business, love, and life.
Like it or not, what people think about you DOES matter.
I’ve spoken to that point so many times so I won’t go off an tangent about it now (I probably will later). What I really want to talk about is determining when you should take someone’s personal opinion of you into account.
Ever notice how 99% of people can say something nice about you, but that 1% who says something crappy is the only thing that sticks?
What’s up with that?!
The truth is that 1% isn’t even real, yet we let it affect us on such a deep level.
I’ll give you a recent example; I wore an outfit during one of my YouTube video shoots.
During the shoot, my entire crew and some of the models on set commented on how great my outfit looked. They commented on the fit, the color, they loved it. That particular outfit got more of a reaction that the other 25 outfits I wore for that shoot.
I posted a behind the scenes photo of that very outfit on Instagram. The picture got plenty of likes and comments specifically on how much they loved the outfit.
Cut a few weeks later when I post the video.
I got roasted for the outfit. People hated it. They said I had some nerve to give fashion advice dressed like that. Other people mocked my styling abilities. It got the point where I just stopped reading.
Does it hurt? Sure. No one likes to be insulted especially when they are trying to put out content that helps other women.
Are their comments true? Well, let’s look at the facts.
Do they have a popular YouTube channel that helps tens of thousands of women?
Do they get emails daily expressing their gratitude for the content they provide for free?
Do they pull in over a million dollars per year for their styling know-how?
My guess is no.
That 1% isn’t real.
They have every right to hate my outfit, but I don’t have to let that crap inside because I know my truth and I have the majority vote on my side.
So that’s when it isn’t real, but what about when it is …
If the majority of the people in your life that genuinely care about you have made comments about your appearance OR if you aren’t progressing in your life the way you’d like to be, THEN we have something to look at.
My clients come to me because they know they have the smarts, the talent, and the drive – yet they aren’t getting ahead. They aren’t be taken seriously by the people who matter. The world sees them as something different than who they know they are.
THAT, my friends, is when a change in order.
If you love the way you look, and you love the way your life is going, then rock on with your bad self!! Don’t let a few rogue haters take you down.
If you want to be stylish but have no idea where to start I’ve got your back!
Everyone loves a top 10 list so I figured I’d make one for style.
Out of all of the many things, stylish women can have hanging in her closet, I’ve boiled it all down to 10 essential pieces. Take a look!
1.) The Perfect Pair of Jeans
I’ll admit I have about a zillion pairs of jeans in my closet but what a girl needs is just one perfect pair of jeans. A classic, timeless pair that fits like a glove.
2.) A Fancy Pair of Shoes
You may not be able to afford a closet full of fancy shoes but having a pair will be a game changer to your wardrobe. Save up and be strategic in your choice. This investment will go a long way.
3.) A Classic Handbag
This is another instance where you don’t have to have every fancy pants handbag in your closet. However, I do recommend investing in a classic, well-made handbag that will stay stylish forever. Think, classic quilted Chanel flap bag.
4.) Tee Shirt That Fits
Falling into the tee shirt trap is easy – ya know having 100 “okay” looking tees. Stop that and invest in one that fits and flatters perfectly. You may need to spend a little more but it will be worth it.
5.) Classic Blazer
Even if you aren’t a blazer type of girl, get one. They are so versatile, and you never know when you’ll need to look polished (job interview, big meeting)
6.) Signature Outerwear
A signature piece of outerwear could be a leather jacket, a trench coat, a bomber jacket – a classic piece of outwear that fits with YOUR signature style.
7.) Go-To Cocktail Dress
Every woman needs a dress in her closet that she can quickly grab when a last-minute invitation comes across your inbox. Make sure it fits and make sure it’s easy to dress up or down.
8.) No-Fail Makeup Look
You don’t need to be a professional makeup artist for this one. Have one face that you can put on and always look fabulous. Look to a professional or your local makeup counter for a quick lesson.
9.) A Piece of Jewelry That Screams You!
Pearls, diamonds, delicate gold chains, a statement necklace … having your signature jewelry look on point will instantly elevate your style game.
10.) A Hair Stylist That You Can Trust
It may take years to find him or her, but once you do never let go!! Having a hairstyle that suits you will no doubt make you look more stylish.
Everybody makes mistakes, and that’s okay. Sometimes you try a new trend or a new silhouette, and it doesn’t work out. It happens to everyone, and it’s no big deal.
There are, however, a few style mistakes that are unforgivable (okay technically everything is forgivable, but let’s just have a little fun here).
Why? Because they are completely preventable. After you learn what they are, you’ll never make those mistakes ever again.
1.) Your Clothes Are Too Tight
Just because you got it on doesn’t mean it fits. If any part of your body is spilling over, then it’s time to size up. When your clothes fit you look slimmer and more stylish.
2.) You’re Wearing Too Many Accessories
The necklace, the earrings, the bracelets, and the rings? Too much. Edit your look down to a select few pieces of your jewelry. When in doubt, remove one accessory.
3.) Your Undergarments Aren’t Working
Visible panty lines, showing straps, bumps, and lumps are completely preventable these days. There are so many undergarments options. Hit your local department store and get fitted for a bra – it’s a game changer.
4.) You’re Dressing Too Young
When it comes to style, your look should mature with you. I am all about dressing in a “youthful manner” but dressing far below your age bracket doesn’t always look the best.
