Ask Lauren: Y2K Trends

Today I want to discuss a fun topic – Y2K fashion trends! I recently received an “Ask Lauren” question asking my opinion on the situation, and I thought it would be interesting to share my thoughts.

First things first, I don’t necessarily follow trends. However, being aware of them is crucial in my line of work. As my mentor used to say, “If you wore the trend the first time, you don’t get to wear it the second time.” I also agree with her when she said, “You never want to look like the oldest in the club.” You don’t want to be the one wearing clothes that don’t fit or match your age.

Now, let’s get into the trends themselves.

Currently, one trend that’s really in is the mushroom print. Have you seen it? It’s everywhere – from clothing to home decor. It’s interesting to note that trend forecasting is a whole industry that predicts trends years in advance and is not just limited to fashion. It includes home and paints colors and even movies. For instance, the upcoming Super Mario Brothers movie is bringing back mushroom prints in a big way. How cool is that?

While I’m digging the mushroom trend, some trends from the past don’t necessarily need to make a comeback. Claw clips and wide-leg jeans from the Y2K era, for example. Although, there are some fun ways to revisit them. For instance, I found claw clips resembling little cats at Marshall’s. As a cat lover, I was tempted to wear them. Unfortunately, they didn’t work with my hair type.

One trend that I find interesting right now is denim. There are many denim trends, from wide-leg jeans to boot cuts and bell bottoms. However, I would advise not to get too swept up in the trend. It’s essential to try on different cuts of jeans and see which ones are comfortable and flattering and make you feel confident. For instance, I recently ordered a pair of bell bottoms that flattered my figure and made me feel good about myself.

In conclusion, trends come and go, and it’s up to you to decide which ones you want to embrace. Whether it’s the mushroom trend, the claw clip trend, or the denim trend, it’s essential to find the ones that work for you and make you feel confident.

Until next time, stay stylish!

How To Get Out of a Style Rut

Are you struggling to figure out what to wear to work from home? Or maybe you’re an entrepreneur who works from home constantly, and you can’t seem to get out of a style rut. I’ve got some tips for you!

First, let’s talk about what I mean by a 2023-style rut. Before the pandemic, we used to go to work, dress up, and follow dress codes. Then, we went into lockdown, working from home, in our pajamas, all the time. We’re either still on Zoom working from home or hybrid, and we don’t know what to wear. That’s a different kind of rut. Then, there’s the type of rut you get into when you’re an entrepreneur who always works at home, pandemic or no pandemic. You find yourself in a rut because you don’t see people and don’t have to leave the house. People only see you from here up because you’re always on Zoom. That’s a particular type of modern-day rut.

So, how do you get out of it? I recommend starting with a seven-day selfie challenge. Take seven days of selfies and write down what you wore, how you felt, and how productive you were. Maybe instead of how you were perceived, you can focus on how you felt and how productive you were. Deep dive into this extra special selfie challenge, and you’ll see how much dressing well can affect your productivity and the opportunities that come your way.

Data shows that people who dress better make more money, and productivity increases when your style is better. However, it’s not always true for every single person. The unstylish may quote cases like Mark Zuckerberg, who wears a hoodie and does just fine. But, if you’ve identified that you’re in a style rut, something about it isn’t working. Look at the information, and let that motivate you to fix it.

Do something to leave the house that forces you to look better. Schedule something where you’ll have to look better or go to an excellent coffee shop, bring your laptop, and work from there. We have to do things that push us out of our comfort zone.

Finally, intentionally upgrade your style. It’s time to unlock the next level in your career, and it starts with giving yourself a full makeover. Grab my book, Style Therapy, and in 30 days, I’ll take you through the exact process I use to transform my clients.

Are you ready to get out of your style rut? Follow my tips, and you’ll be on your way to dressing better, feeling more productive, and unlocking the next level in your career.

3 Ways You’re Secretly Repelling Clients

Do you think you’re doing everything right in your business but still can’t attract the right clients? I hate to break it to you, but you might be repelling them without realizing it! In this blog, I will share how you secretly repel clients and how to fix them.

So, what are the three ways you’re repelling clients? Let’s dive in!

Your style sucks

If you’re a stylist, your style speaks volumes about your business. And if your style sucks, you’re sending the wrong message to potential clients. Take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself if your dress is attracting or repelling clients. If it’s the latter, it’s time for a makeover. Your style should be a magnet for the clients you want to serve.

Your frequency is low

Believe it or not, your energy and frequency can repel clients. If you have low energy or frequency, you could be turning away potential clients without realizing it. You need to be the energy you want to attract. Take a good look at yourself and ensure you’re putting out positive and high vibrations to attract the right people.

You’re not ready

Sometimes, you’re repelling clients because you’re not ready to serve them. You need to have the right infrastructure, systems, and knowledge in place to handle high-paying clients. If you’re struggling to attract clients, take a step back and ask yourself if you’re truly ready to serve them.

To recap, your style, frequency, and readiness are how you secretly repel clients. Take a good look at yourself and your business and ensure you’re not making any of these mistakes. Fix them, and you’ll start attracting the right clients quickly.

3 Ways to Show Up Strong for Your Clients

As a personal stylist, I always strive to be the best in the world. But how do I get there? By showing up strong for my clients every single day. And you can do it too! In this blog, I share three ways you can show up strong for your styling clients and become the best personal stylist in the world.

Tip #1: Become an Expert
To become an expert in your field, you must study, practice, and invest in yourself. Don’t rely on your talent; invest your time and energy into learning as much as possible. Attend every seminar, take every class, hire every coach, and read every book you can access. Doing so will make you the best in your field and show up strong for your clients.

Tip #2: Meditate
You may be surprised to hear that every ultra-powerful, successful person talks about their meditation practice. Why? Because meditation helps you get in tune with your intuition, take time out of your busy day to shut up and listen, and allow universal downloads to come to you. Meditation will recharge your batteries, get great ideas, and become more centered. At Style Boss Academy, we focus on mindset and encourage our students to take personal time to meditate or journal to help them become the best stylist for their clients.

Tip #3: Make it about Them, Not About You
Making it all about you will not help you become the best stylist in the world. Instead, focus on making it about your clients. If you genuinely want to see your clients win, you’ll be obsessed with helping them succeed. That’s why it’s so important to be in touch with your purpose and lead with the energy of wanting to serve your clients. When you put your clients first, you’ll get all the cash and prizes you desire, but your main motivation will be to help your clients succeed.

So, there you have three ways to show up strong for your clients and become the best personal stylist in the world. Are you ready to take your styling game to the next level? Then, watch the full video on my YouTube channel, and let’s make it happen!

Emotional Style Baggage: Are You or Your Client Carrying It?

As a personal stylist, I know there’s always more to personal style than what meets the eye. In today’s blog, I want to talk to you about emotional style baggage and how it can impact your wardrobe choices. Whether you’re looking to transform your style or a personal stylist working with clients, it’s important to understand the emotional baggage that can come into play.

When someone comes to me wanting a new look, it’s rarely just because they’re in the mood for a change. More often than not, there’s something deeper going on that’s driving their desire for a new look. This is where emotional style baggage comes in. We all have it, whether we realize it or not. And if you’re a personal stylist, you can bet that your clients are carrying it too.

So, what exactly do I mean by emotional style baggage? It can take many forms, but it’s anything weighing you down emotionally and impacting your style choices. Here are a few examples:

Memory-related baggage: If you’ve recently gone through a breakup, divorce, or other major life change, you may be carrying emotional baggage that’s tied to those memories. This can show up in your wardrobe in various ways, from holding onto clothes that remind you of a past relationship to avoiding certain styles because they bring up negative memories. As a personal stylist, you must know this and help your clients navigate these hidden emotions.

Grief-related baggage: Losing a loved one can also impact your style choices. You may gravitate towards more somber colors or avoid certain styles altogether because they remind you of the person you lost. Again, awareness of this can help you move forward and make more intentional wardrobe choices.

The new phase of life baggage: Starting a new job, getting a promotion, or entering a new relationship can all come with emotional baggage. Imposter syndrome, fear of judgment, and other emotions can impact your confidence and willingness to try new things with your style. If you’re working with a client going through a major life change, it’s important to be aware of these emotions and help them feel confident in their new role.

These are just a few examples of the emotional style baggage that we can carry. The key takeaway is that our emotions are always at play regarding personal style. Whether you’re dressing or working with clients, having an awareness of this can help you make more intentional wardrobe choices and feel more confident in your style. So, take a moment to reflect on your own emotional style baggage. What are you carrying with you, and how is it impacting your wardrobe choices? And if you’re a personal stylist, always remember to be mindful of the emotional baggage that your clients may be carrying.

How To Create An Outfit Intention

Hey there, fashion lovers! Are you tired of staring at your closet, feeling overwhelmed and unsure what to wear? Do you want to elevate your style and feel confident in your daily outfit choices? Look no further because I have the solution for you!

In today’s blog, “How To Create An Outfit Intention,” I share my personal journaling method called the 54321 journaling methods. In this method, I highlight the importance of setting three outfit intentions for the day, which will completely change the game for you and your style.

So, what are outfit intentions, you ask? Well, it’s simple. By setting three outfit intentions, you will have a solid idea of how you want to look, how you want to feel, and how you want to be perceived. With these intentions in mind, getting dressed and putting together an outfit that aligns with your goals and mood for the day will be much easier.

I break down the three questions you should ask yourself when setting outfit intentions. The first question is, “How do I want to look?” By answering this question, you can set your intention for the day, which will help you choose your outfit accordingly.

The second question is, “How do I want to feel?” This question will help you pick the perfect outfit to make you feel confident and empowered.

And finally, the third question is, “How do I want to be perceived?” This question will help you select an outfit that aligns with your goals for the day, whether it’s a big presentation at work or a romantic date night.

By setting these three outfit intentions, you can narrow your choices and quickly create a fabulous outfit that makes you look and feel amazing. Trust me, it’s a game-changer!

I can’t wait to see you all looking fabulous in your perfectly curated outfits!

Ask Lauren: What If Your Client Refuses to Get Rid of an Item?

In today’s blog post, we will discuss what to do when your client refuses to remove an item during a closet cleanse.

As a personal stylist, you might encounter situations where your clients are attached to their items, even if it’s not the best choice. But don’t worry; there are ways to handle this situation gracefully and easily.

First, let’s get straight – this is not a reality show. We’re not here to make fun of our clients or throw away their beloved clothes for the sake of drama. Our job is to help our clients look and feel their best, not to judge them for their choices.

So, if your client doesn’t want to get rid of something in their closet, let them keep it. It’s their property and not our place to pressure them to let go of something they’re not ready to part with.

However, that doesn’t mean we should give up and move on. It’s our job to educate our clients on why certain items might not be the best choice for them. For example, if a polka dot blouse doesn’t have a modern neckline or doesn’t accentuate their beautiful neck, we can kindly explain why it’s not the best choice for them.

If your client is still not convinced, that’s okay too. Offer to find more modern options for them to try on during your shopping trips, and they might be surprised at how much they love the new items.

Remember, our clients’ emotional attachments to their clothes are real, and it’s not our place to judge them for it. We can gently guide them towards better choices, but ultimately, it’s up to them to decide what they want to keep and what they want to let go of.

So when your client refuses to get rid of an item during a closet cleanses, don’t sweat it. Be kind, be patient, and focus on educating your client on better choices. At the end of the day, you’re there to help them feel confident and stylish, not to judge them for their choices.

First on the list is mindless shopping. We’ve all been there, buying clothes when bored or without a purpose. But this bad habit can be expensive and wasteful. So let’s take a cue from the guys and start shopping with intention. Make a list of what you need and prioritize your purchases. Trust me; it will save money and help you wear more of what’s already in your closet.

Next up is buying the same things over and over again. I’m guilty of this one myself. It’s so easy to get stuck in a style rut and buy the same clothes. But let’s be real; no one wants to be a cartoon character with a closet full of the same thing. So, let’s break this bad habit and try new styles and silhouettes.

The third bad style habit is not taking care of your clothes. It’s easy to get lazy and not want to go to the dry cleaners or do laundry, but this bad habit can ruin your clothes and make you look sloppy. So, take the time to properly care for your clothes, whether at the dry cleaners or using an at-home kit.

Moving on to bad habit number four, wearing clothes that don’t fit properly. We’ve all been guilty of this one, holding onto clothes that are too small or too big, hoping we’ll fit into them someday. But the truth is, ill-fitting clothes can make you look messy and unpolished. So, let’s break this habit and invest in clothes that fit us properly.

Bad habit number five is not experimenting with new styles. It’s easy to get stuck in a style rut and wear the same thing repeatedly, but trying new things can be fun and refreshing. So, let’s break this habit and start experimenting with new styles, colors, and silhouettes.

Last but not least, bad habit number six is not wearing what you already have. It’s so easy to get caught up in the cycle of wanting something new, but we often forget what we already have in our closets. So, let’s break this habit and start wearing what we already have. Mix and match pieces to create new outfits; don’t be afraid to wear something again.

Do You Need an Image Consultant Certification to Become a Personal Stylist?

Hello, fashion lovers! Today I’m here to answer one of the most asked questions in the styling industry: do you need a certification to become a personal stylist?

First, let me clarify that I have two divisions in my business: one where I help clients find their personal style, and another where I teach aspiring stylists how to start their styling businesses. So, if you’re an aspiring stylist, keep reading!

The answer to this question is simple: you do not need a certification to become a stylist. However, you cannot become a successful stylist with your styling abilities alone. You must learn how to run a business, serve clients, and create packages and pricing.

Having all these fancy degrees and certifications doesn’t matter in this industry. What matters most is your ability to make your clients look and feel amazing.

I learned this firsthand when Stacy London, the queen of personal style, trained me. I was so excited to be a certified, hand-selected stylist by Stacy London, but when I told my clients, they had no idea who she was! What they cared about was whether I could make them look better.

So, if you’re an aspiring stylist, focus on getting educated in ways that will make you a better stylist and business owner. Seek educational opportunities to teach you how to style beyond your type, run a business, and serve your clients.

To make your dream job a reality, download my free ebook. In it, you’ll find industry secrets and action steps to help you become the best possible stylist you can be.

Remember, it’s not about your certifications or degrees but your ability to make your clients feel confident and amazing in their skin. So, go out there and make it happen!
