How To Get Out of a Style Rut

Are you struggling to figure out what to wear to work from home? Or maybe you’re an entrepreneur who works from home constantly, and you can’t seem to get out of a style rut. I’ve got some tips for you!

First, let’s talk about what I mean by a 2023-style rut. Before the pandemic, we used to go to work, dress up, and follow dress codes. Then, we went into lockdown, working from home, in our pajamas, all the time. We’re either still on Zoom working from home or hybrid, and we don’t know what to wear. That’s a different kind of rut. Then, there’s the type of rut you get into when you’re an entrepreneur who always works at home, pandemic or no pandemic. You find yourself in a rut because you don’t see people and don’t have to leave the house. People only see you from here up because you’re always on Zoom. That’s a particular type of modern-day rut.

So, how do you get out of it? I recommend starting with a seven-day selfie challenge. Take seven days of selfies and write down what you wore, how you felt, and how productive you were. Maybe instead of how you were perceived, you can focus on how you felt and how productive you were. Deep dive into this extra special selfie challenge, and you’ll see how much dressing well can affect your productivity and the opportunities that come your way.

Data shows that people who dress better make more money, and productivity increases when your style is better. However, it’s not always true for every single person. The unstylish may quote cases like Mark Zuckerberg, who wears a hoodie and does just fine. But, if you’ve identified that you’re in a style rut, something about it isn’t working. Look at the information, and let that motivate you to fix it.

Do something to leave the house that forces you to look better. Schedule something where you’ll have to look better or go to an excellent coffee shop, bring your laptop, and work from there. We have to do things that push us out of our comfort zone.

Finally, intentionally upgrade your style. It’s time to unlock the next level in your career, and it starts with giving yourself a full makeover. Grab my book, Style Therapy, and in 30 days, I’ll take you through the exact process I use to transform my clients.
