I Have Arrived! Watch out Sin City

Well I am here in Sin City … sitting in front of my computer, drinking a bottle of water. Not exactly sinning but whatever, I just got here.

After a $35 cab ride to The Bellagio, I check in to the hotel only to find out that there are only smoking rooms left. Wtf?

I mean I enjoy a drunken cigarette from time to time but smoking indoors? Grody! As a consolation they put me in a bigger room at the same cost as a smaller room. The room is pretty pimp looking but it smells like an old man in here. I swear if this stinky ass room ruins my clothes. This will be a lesson for me in the future to always travel with a scented candle.

Anyways, I am pumped about the MAGIC convention tomorrow and all of the mayhem that I am sure to get into, oh and the shopping … I plan on doing a lot of that too. Lucky for me there is a Gucci boutique in my hotel so I just might have to see if they have my Hysteria bag in stock.

Check in with you kittens tomorrow,

Kitty

Traveling in a Sea of Fakes

I am sitting on the cold dirty floor at the United terminal at LAZ wondering what the hell happened to the good old days when people used to fly in style? I mean I know that true jet set glamour is reserved for thos with private planes. I realize that I am dressed pretty casually (put togther well of course) in True Religion jeans, C & C California top, Havaiana flip flops, a chic little fedora and a Marc Jacobs bag but damn people, you are in public.

The hot messes are in full swing at LAX. As I type this a pair of mandals just walked by (men’s sandals). There are some ridiculous looking fakes here too! LV, Coach, and Gucci … You name it and it’s here. The amount of ill fitting clothes is pretty unreasonable too. If you are sitting on a plane for hours why would you choose the pants that took a tub of Vaseline and prayer to get into?

As you can see flying gets me fired up. I am so worked up that I have broken out into hives again. Man, I gotta get that under control.

Stay tuned for more live blogging from my Vegas trip. Over and out!

Xoxo,

Fashion Kitty

Hysterical

Let’s get one thing straight, I don’t get hysterical … unless, of course, it’s fashion-related. I have been lusting over the Gucci Hysteria bag since April and here is it August and I still want it. I can’t have the $4k python version that I really want but I think I can swing the $1k printed version. Spending $995 (sounds better than $1k) may sound a bit insane but here me out because I have been rationalizing this in my head for hours.

I am getting old(er). This November I will be 28 years old, which means 30 is right around the corner. I swear that I just turned 25 (I act like I am about 19 sometimes) but seriously, it’s time that I grow up. I don’t mean growing up in the traditional way with kids, relationships and all that other bullshit — it’s simply not for me. What I mean is that I need to grow up my wardrobe. C’mon what did you expect me to say? I am a FP (fashion person).

I need to start purchasing investment pieces, pieces that will make people jealous today and 10 years down the line. I still intend on dressing like my hot youthful self but I want to start adding in pieces that I won’t regret after one wear.

What do you think is this bag an investment or will I regret it later. I need some help people … I am really considering buying this bag.

Revolve Clothing Opening on Melrose

Yesterday was like the perfect Friday! It was my diet “cheat day” (I ate sushi and ice cream) and I shopped my little heart out. I first went over to the Linea Pelle sample sale and then it was off to the Revolve boutique on Melrose.

Having Revolve open a boutique is pretty exciting stuff. I compare the excitement to the feeling I get when I meet a fellow bloggers in person. You know when find yourself so close to a person that you haven’t even actually met in person. Then when you do meet them in person it’s like magic. I feel like way about Revolve. Because I have made a living off of shopping online — Revolve and I are pretty darn close. No other online boutique has such a great selection of stylish clothes for both women and men as Revolve does. So going into their brand new flagship boutique was quite a thrill for me.

On to the shopping experience…

I walked into the boutique and immediately was pleased by the rocking customer service. Stylish little salespeople greeting me and offering me cupcakes and champagne is never a bad thing. I am sure I have mentioned this before but a place with bad customer service is an immediate deal breaker for me.

The store itself is really cool looking. My favorite aspect of it was the giant projection of Revolve’s homepage on the wall and the Mac by the register that was set on RevolveClothing.com so you could shop online from inside the store. Maybe it’s the web nerd in me but that was one sexy way to integrate the offline and the online worlds.

Another really fabulous part of the store was the outdoor area (ain’t SoCal lovely?). The outdoor area of the shop had this great little fashion trend museum with mannequins sporting the key trends for fall. It really displayed fashion as art and for die-hard fashionistas like myself it was perfection because really … fashion is art.

A clothing boutique isn’t a clothing boutique without the clothes and they were amazing too. Great pieces for guys, great pieces for girls … great pieces for Fashion Kitty to broke over. I was drawn to the selection of leggings, which were SO cool. They were very 80’s but very, very sexy. I was also attracted to the Lauren Moshi pieces and ended up plunking down $100 for a tee shirt but it was cute so who cares.

I can tell that Revolve is going to be one of my regular Melrose shopping haunts. Between Revolve, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Fred Segal, and Betsey Johnson — I will be living in a shoebox in 6 weeks.

Fashion Kitty’s Diet and Slim-down Secrets

Fashion Week is less than 2 weeks away and I’ve got 2lbs to go …

Don’t you love how sexy I look at the gym? Joking of course. My gym is the only place that I can go without makeup, without doing a thing to my hair and not give a shit.

I love my gym.

I workout at Burn Fitness in Santa Monica, CA. I joined the gym last October and it’s honestly been the best money I’ve ever spent. Burn Fitness has the best owners, staff, trainers, and members that I have ever come across in a gym. Burn isn’t all snobby like Equinox and it isn’t all trashy like Bally’s — it’s perfect.

I workout five (sometimes six) days a week for about 90 mins – 2 hours a day. My workout schedule consists of 2-3 times a week of weight training with my kick ass trainer Keith Sims (who has practically become family to me). I also do about an hour of cardio a day (give or take). But the real key to my success is FatBurn.com.

FatBurn is where I obsessively tally every morsel of food that goes in my mouth and every ounce of energy that I expend through exercise. When you sign up for FatBurn you create your own goals and it tells you have many calories a day you have to burn to lose weight. I need to burn 700 calories a day to lose the weight that I want to lose for Fashion Week. I definitely advise keeping a food journal or using a site like FatBurn, it is really the key to weight loss.

Fashion Kitty Diet Do’s:

  • Keep a food diary or a site like FatBurn.com
  • Limit your carbohydrate intake and make sure the carbs you do eat are whole grain.
  • Protein, protein, protein … it’s key when reshaping your body. I recommend egg whites and turkey. Keep the red meat to a minimum or elimate it completely.
  • Exerise daily
  • Set a date-realted goal. I can’t take diet challenges seriously unless I have a goal in mind with a date attached (ex. lose 10lbs by Christmas)
  • Let yourself cheat. I allow myself one cheat day a wek. That day I will drink, eat cupcakes, eat pizza … whatever I had been craving all week.
  • Stop eating!! I have recently put a cut off time on eating, it’s 7pm each night for me.

Check out my diet lists on ThisNext for healthy eating ideas …

Linea Pelle Sample Sale

Today I left the office early to go to two shopping events. The first one was the Linea Pelle sample sale and the second was the opening of Revolve Clothing’s flagship store on Melrose (blog post coming soon.)

I headed over to the sale not knowing what to except. I also headed over dirt poor but I told myself if the belts were any bracelets I would cave in AND if there were any belts under $50 then I would also cave in.

Well, the prices were AWESOME!! $10 for bracelets, $25 for belts, wallets for $25, $35 for clutches, and all other bags were priced between $75- $125. Do you know how good those prices are? Their bracelets are originally $55 and the bags go as high as $600.

The sale started at 10am with lines down the block. I went around 3pm and it was pretty quiet in there but lucky for me there was plenty left. I also had the kindness of fashionistas on my side … the girls who were working the sale were kind enough to pull out their secret stash of bracelets just for me.

I bought 3 bracelets (all that I previously recommended on ThisNext), a great red belt that was specially made and never put into production, I also couldn’t resist this amazing blue wallet. The wallet was a last minute buy — I knew if I didn’t get one I would kick my own ass later.
I feel pretty darn good about my purchases. I got almost $600 worth of merchandise for $80. There is another day of the sale tomorrow and apparently they are going to be pulling straight from the warehouse so the late bloomers can get some goodies too.

Alternative and Matt Sohl at Fred Segal

I breezed through the Alternative/ Matt Sohl party at Fred Segal in Santa Monica yesterday because a.) it was walking distance from my office b.) I wanted to see if Matt Sohl could make plain clothing more interesting and c.) there were going to be cupcakes.

I can’t say that the party was that exciting. Why? Well, there weren’t enough Matt Sohl painted pieces to look at and, uh, I can’t eat cupcakes (I am 2 lbs away from my goal weight).

I did really like the burnout tees and the deep v-neck tee shirts that Alternative had to offer. They were stylish and didn’t cost a lot. Check them out at Alternative Apparel.com.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Jenny’s dress (Gossip Girl)

Do you know who’s makes Little J’s dress (below) because I need a dress for an annual outdoor gala. If you can’t find the exact dress could you recommend some dressed that are similar? If so thanks so much!

That dress is adorable but I can’t seem to track it down. I did find some similar alternatives that you might like …

This Lela Rose taffeta dress is on sale at Neiman Marcus and has a very similar look to it.

I also like this little cap-sleeved dress from Theory, which is also from Neimans and also on sale.

If anyone can identify the REAL Jenny Humphrey dress please leave it in the comments section.

2K By Gingham’s T-shirt Collection

I was just scouring 2K By Gingham‘s tee shirt selection to see if I could find something cool. And boy did I!

I think you all know this by now but I have a huge crush on Edie Sedgwick, she is my all time favorite celebrity. I am constantly looking for products with her gorgeously hip face on it or products inspired by her. Believe it or not these products aren’t that easy to find so when I was introduced to 2K by Gingham and found a bunch of Edie shirts, I was in heaven.

The photos on the Edie tee shirts are photos that were taken by Nat Finkelstein. Nat was a 1960’s photographer who was best known for his work with Andy Warhol as Warhol’s ‘unofficial’ in-house photographer . The photographs on these tees’s are now recognized as some of the best Warhol pictures in history.

I have the Edie closeup tee shirt. The only size available was a men’s large but I am wearing it anyways … Edie style, as a dress with black opaque tights and a leopard print coat. It’s gonna be so cute. As soon as it’s coat appropriate weather I will wear the ensemble and of course snap a photo for the “Clothes off My Back” section.
