Revolve Clothing opening flagship on Melrose

Everyone’s favorite online clothing boutique, Revolve Clothing, is opening their flagship store right in my own backyard!! Come by the brand new boutique on Melrose to celebrate the opening with champagne, snacks, and gifts.

Are you going? Cause I’m going. For all that do plan on attending I will see you there. And if by some small miracle they are stocking this LaRok dress in their store I will be all over it because I HAVE to have this for Vegas next week. It’s a must.

The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own by Nina Garcia

The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own by Nina Garcia

I just received this book yesterday and I have already read it and LOVED it. I was a huge fan of Nina’s last book, The Little Black Book of Style, so I knew I would love this one too.

This book outlines the 100 items that every woman should have in her closet. Yep, 100 because lets face it all of those other sources claiming you only need 5 things is total crap.

Just like Nina’s last book, this one is illustrated by Ruben Toledo — which makes the book that much more enjoyable to read.

What are the 100? Well, I don’t want to give them all away but here are some that you might find surprising (especially from Nina):– Converse
– Push-up bra
– Zippered hoodie
– Old concert tee shirt
– Red lipstick
– Peacoat (from an army surplus store is best)

There are also the usual suspects like:
– Little Black Dress
– Pearls
– Diamond studs
– Animal print

This book is great and I highly recommend it. This would also make a great inexpensive gift for fashion lovers.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Cotton in the Big Apple

I know I should know the answer to this question. Since it looks obvious to me and isn’t, and I think your blog is great, especially your advice … can you please help me out here?

Can I wear cotton to dressed up events in NYC, such as out to clubs at night, and to nice restaurants? eg. a LBD? If I dress it up? With a nice clutch & jewelry, high heels, etc.? Or is it best to wear more silk or velvet or blends, etc…Thanks!

I had way too much fun answering this question! Short answer is yes of course you can wear a cotton dress (or a jersey dress) out on the town. Jersey dresses are the most versatile piece of fashion that your closet can have. Buy jersey dresses and buy them often. Check out how I took basic black jersey dresses and styled them for all sorts of occasions.

Downtown Diva- Perfect ensemble for going out with the girls to a brand new restaurant or drinks at a trendy spot.

Man Magnet: These looks are great for hitting the clubs, getting attention from the boys (or girls), and visiting trendy new hot spots.

This look (below) serves the same purpose but it’s a little vampier.

You can of course wear a jersey dress during the day too. The look below is perfect for a day of shopping with the girls.

Who needs Gucci anyways?

Gucci black leather & suede riding boots

Well I do, usually, but in this case I did without and saved like $1,100. Let me back up for a minute because clearly I am confusing everyone …

Last week after an intense cardio session at the gym I decided to take my worked-out self to Wasteland for a little vintage shopping. I usually turn up my nose at Wasteland because it is not really vintage, it’s more like an over priced Salvation Army but whatever I was sweaty and gross anyhow.

I nosed around the store and saw a few interesting pieces but I wasn’t about to try anything on, I was gross after all. I did, however, feel comfortable trying on a pair of boots (with socks of course). This one pair stood out to me. They were rugged, stylish, had a nice heel, and would compliment my new fall look quite nicely. And what, oh, they were only $65.

What did my dumb ass do? I walked out without buying them.

2 days later I went back and thank goodness they were still there. I bought them, took them home to clean them up and smiled at my happy purchase.

A few days later I am searching online for a pair of Gucci boots that I found in an ad in September’s Vogue. I didn’t find those boots but I did stumble upon these. They look a lot like the $65 boots that I got but in my eyes mine are better. They both have the leather/ suede combo and both hit right below the knee. I like mine better because a.) they were cheaper b.) the toe is much more ass-kickin’ and c.) the heel is higher. Did I mention they were cheaper?

I am really looking forward to wearing these bad boys. The first thing I want to wear them with is cut-off sorts, thigh high black ribbed socks, a black fitted tank, and an open plaid shirt. Very grunge 90’s/ Alexander Wang/ Bad-ass Fashion Kitty.

MTV Model Makers auditions

Not sure if any of you are models/ reality show junkies but if you are here is an MTV audition that you may be interested in:

Have you always wanted to model but don’t know where to start? Maybe you don’t know the right people. Maybe you are not thin enough. Maybe you are not photogenic. MODEL MAKERS will give you the ultimate make-over and transform you into the model of your dreams.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, but models don’t. The term model conjures an image of stick-thin, towering beauties oozing confidence, glamour, poise and sexuality from every pore. “Skinny,” “no body fat,” and “size zero” are the words and phrases associated with models. “Chubby,” “well-fed,” and “big- boned” are not…

Until now!

From acclaimed Model Manager Michael Flutie, Cris Abrego Productions and MTV, introducing “MODEL MAKERS”, the show that dares to go where no modeling show has gone before.

15 lucky women from around the country will get the opportunity of a lifetime when MTV hands them over to Michael Flutie and an expert team of trainers, nutritionists, stylists, and other industry leaders. Under the watchful “eye” of these experts, models will endure twelve weeks of intensive physical fitness training to help them get down to their ideal size. Models will also compete in various high fashion challenges to determine who has star quality. With weekly eliminations looming, models must put their best foot forward at all times while staying focused on losing weight.

Let MODEL MAKERS transform you. Get in shape, develop your modeling skills and polish your “look” to achieve your ultimate goal of becoming a high fashion model. If your transformation is successful, you will be rewarded with not only the experience of a lifetime, but with the MTV prize package that includes:

  • $100,000
  • A professional modeling portfolio
  • A personal trainer for one year
  • The chance to jumpstart the career of your dreams
