Hiding vs. camouflaging, there is a difference when it comes to style.
Weight gain, past trauma, and a lack of confidence often contribute to hiding behind big baggy clothes or an all black wardrobe. Your main mission when you are hiding is to become completely invisible .
Stop doing that!
I’m not asking you to let it all hang out either. If you’re not feeling up to putting it all out there, I encourage you to camouflage instead.
This can mean:
Wearing a busy print to confuse the eye and distract from any problem areas
Dressing for your body type, flattering your figure is the fastest way to visually drop a few pounds.
Wearing items that make you happy! That inner joy will translate on the outside.
Hiding brings about feelings of shame, and nobody like a shame spiral 🌀

It’s not shallow and it’s not silly – it’s human nature.
A lot of women are “rebelling” against style, thinking they are above it all.
As one of my coaches recently said, “Anytime you work against human nature, you lose.”
When you rebel against style, which is just a simple way of saying you’re rebelling against presenting yourself well, you miss out on opportunities, connections, and self-confidence.
Don’t hold yourself back from showing up as your highest self because in the end, you lose.
Back in my celebrity styling days, I dressed a lot of musicians. The lead singer would always get the coolest clothes. The band and backup singers would get to choose from a rack of all black.
Makes sense, they aren’t the focus. They aren’t the “star” of the show.
There was a time where I always wore black. I thought it was a preference, but looking back the choice went much deeper.
I was no longer the “lead singer” at my own show.
I found myself in relationships, business partnerships, and friendships where I was the backup singer.
There is nothing wrong with being in a supporting role unless of course, you know you were meant to be the star.
The second I began stepping into my spotlight, my style started to shift. I naturally gravitated towards more vibrant colors, prints, and bold accessories.
I was no longer afraid to be seen.
I’m not saying that everyone who wears black is hiding, but I challenge you to think about what your style might be saying about you.
We’ve spent a year and a half locked in the house hiding behind our computer screens, eating snacks, watching Netflix, and not going to the gym.
Top that off with stress levels collectively being at an all-time high, and we’ve got the perfect recipe for the quarantine 15, loss of muscle tone, and/or a general “blah” feeling.
As the world slowly starts to reopen, the time has come to start wearing REAL CLOTHES!
Nothing ruins body confidence faster than a tight pair of trousers, am I right?
We’ve got to do something about this, and it’s NOT dieting or an extreme workout regime.
It’s time to LOVE OUR BODIES – exactly the way they are right now!
I’ve been hosting the Love Your Body Style Challenge since 2018, and there’s a reason I bring it back year after year. Simply put, it’s life-changing.
Starting June 21st, we’re going to embark upon a challenge where we will stand tall and go deep when it comes to personal style and our bodies.
We aren’t going to diet, and we aren’t going to exercise (unless you want to), we aren’t even going to go shopping! Instead, we’re going to explore how styling the clothes we have can change the way we feel about our bodies.
This challenge is 100% FREE. Here’s what’s included:
10-Day Love Your Body Style Challenge guide
Membership to the private Love Your Body Style Challenge Facebook group.
Daily live video lessons from me inside the FB group and delivered to your inbox.
The challenge starts June 21st and ends on July 2nd.
Appreciate the body you have instead of obsessing over the one you wish you had.
Walk away with a network of powerful women who you’ll meet inside the group.
Learn a ton! I’m teaching FREE exclusive lessons inside the group each day.
Are you ready to join? The challenge officially starts on June 21st. Snag your spot now because we have some bonus activities happening inside the group.
PS- You do NOT have to be on Facebook to participate in this challenge. Lesson recordings are emailed out by the end of each day to all challenge members.
Have you ever had someone straight-up not hold the door open for you?
Like, you’re standing right there and nada.
Well, I conducted a little experiment:
My building has a doorman, and it’s literally his job to hold open the door for the tenants.
I noticed that anytime I’d come in or out dressed in oversized sweats (late night dog walks, don’t judge), the doorman wouldn’t open the door for me.
It was like I was invisible.
BUT when I’m all dressed up, the doorman practically runs to let me in.
Whether we intend to or not, sometimes we HIDE behind our clothes.
Often hiding costs us much more than someone not opening the door. I’m talking about being passed up for the big promotion, being overlooked by your crush, not getting your dream house, and the list goes on.
Debra admits she’s never had respect for the significance of style but realized through doing the work inside Style Therapy that what’s hiding behind her baggy clothing is a lot of painful memories.
Today’s episode is AWESOME! Debra attacks this style roadblock head-on and makes some jaw-dropping progress.
Tala is an attorney in Los Angeles who is tired of her clothing, closet, body image issues, and tired of having people act surprised when they find out she’s a lawyer.
One of the style roadblocks that Tala comes up against is the challenges associated with being a plus-sized woman making over her style.
But guess what? Using the tools in my book Style Therapy, Tala prevails and comes out of the experience transformed!
This week’s episode will be a little different because I can’t help but jump in with a mini-Lauren Rant or two.
Of course, I do it out of love because I WISH I would’ve tackled my money issues when I was in my twenties. It took years of stress, shame, and piles of debt before I saw the light.
I’ll also be sharing some tips to move those blocks out of the way to let your signature style shine through.
Before the book deals, before the millions of dollars, before the brand partnerships, television commercials, and magazine features, I was just a girl with a dream of starting a personal styling business.
I put myself out there and prayed that someone would take a chance on me.
Today I can tell you that I will never forget the clients who took a chance on me.
Jessica, my very first in-person client, who introduced me to Tracy, who introduced me to Susan.
In 2016 I launched my first online course, Personal Style University, and ten women signed up on the first day.
I chose ten deserving women, gave them a copy of my book ‘Style Therapy,’ some filming equipment, and let them go to town documenting their transformation.
Every episode is a little bit different based on the subject’s experience with the book, how much work they actually did (I know when my clients are cutting corners), and how vulnerable they choose to be on camera.
Sarah’s episode went deep on the struggles new moms experience.
Dana shared her life-long battle with confidence issues.
And Gabi showed us what it’s finding your style while living out of a suitcase as a digital nomad.
This week you’re going to meet Ivory.
Ivory will make you laugh; in fact, she’ll crack you up!
She will talk about the one struggle we’ve ALL experienced to some degree as women.
You’ll get to see a ton of style, and a before/after that will blow you away.
Did I mention this is an extended episode? Yep! This one is so good we had to make it extra long.
Yesterday I was interviewed for a podcast, and the interviewer had some questions about my “tough love” approach when interacting with my clients and followers.
Listen, I’m aware that I’m not for everyone. I’m aware that not everyone connects with the passion and intention behind my rants, but let me try to explain:
I have a gift for seeing people’s potential.
It’s like a sixth sense that I can’t turn off. Low key, I feel like I’m a little bit psychic, but because saying that often comes across as “crazy,” so I call it an impeccable bullshit meter.
I KNOW when my clients are meant for more, I KNOW when they are only scratching the surface, and I KNOW when they aren’t dressing in a way that represents who they truly are.
And honestly, it keeps me up at night.
I lose sleep when my clients, who I KNOW are badasses, don’t level up!!
Why? Because Gabriella is a very talented artist, and she’s rolling around town wearing a full-on banana outfit! You’ll see it in today’s episode; me attempting to describe it wouldn’t do it justice.
And please show Gabi some LOVE in the comments, and only love. She’s my client, so I’m the only one who can give her shit.😉
But seriously, she did a great job, and her before/ after shots are quite dramatic!!
