The Fear Of Wasting An Outfit

I’ve cleaned out a TON of closets over the course of my career and, I kid you not, every single closet has had at least one unworn item. The dialogue usually goes a little something like this:

Me: OMG this piece is so cute!

Client: Thank you!

Me: Wait, does it still have the tags on it?!!

Client: Well I can’t just “wear” it. I’m saving it for something special.

Something “special.” Mind you, none of these pieces are ball gowns or anything extravagant like that. They are normal garments suitable for everyday use, but for some reason, they have been deemed “special” and will remain unworn.

Stop it!!

This all stems from the STUPID fear of wasting an outfit on an insignificant day.

Not to get all motivational speaker on you, but isn’t every day special? You’re alive aren’t you? That’s winning in my book.

Style Therapy: The Problem with Polished

Now that the Anti-Style Type series is over, it’s time to get real. Like really real, so buckle up.

“I just want to look polished and put-together” is a sentence I am guaranteed to hear every time I work with a new client.

Young or old, tall or short, petite or plus … It’s the same damn line.

So after nearly a decade of working with clients and hearing the word “polished” over and over again, it’s time to address it head-on.

What does looking polished actually mean and is it even possible? Find out in today’s video.

How To Wear Thigh Boots (without looking too sexy)

Thigh boots are sexy by nature and a lot of women are afraid to rock them because of that.

I’ve got news for ya … there is a way to tone down the sexy while rocking a pair of thigh high boots.

Tip #1- Skip the super revealing clothing. Even though I’m wearing a mini skirt (a sexier piece), for the  most part I am very covered up. I balanced the sexy bottom half of my look with a sweatshirt – you could easily do the same with a sweatshirt, a crewneck tee, or a high-neck blouse.

Tip #2- Keep your attitude playful. Sexiness isn’t all clothes and body – your attitude plays a key role. If you want to tone things down, take on a playful persona that day.

Tip #3- When in doubt, rock them with pants! Thigh boots look great over skinny jeans and leather leggings. If you aren’t ready to sport a skirt or a dress, just go with pants.

How To Style A Suit with a Tee Shirt

We all know the importance of the LBD (little black dress) and I’m assuming that everyone has at least one hanging in their closet. But what about the little black suit?

Unless you work a corporate job, chances are you don’t have one in your closet.

I’m here to tell you that investing in a chic little black suit was one of the best decisions I made for my wardrobe.

Why? One word: Versatility.

You can dress it up, dress it down, wear it together, or wear it apart.

My favorite way to wear a shirt is to wear it casually with a tee shirt. Here are a few tips:

Tip #1- Find a tee that fits. Something that isn’t too bulky in the sleeves is best.

Tip #2- Go Graphic. This is the easiest way to add visual interest to your look.

Tip #3- If You Go Solid … Make sure you add a fun piece of jewelry to spice things up.

Are You Ready For A Style Awakening?

Whether you consider yourself a stylish person or a person who struggles with style, we all have room for what I like to call a “Style Awakening.”

Like it or not, style is important and there comes a time (or ten) in every woman’s life where we are reminded of that fact.

That reminder could come through an insult, or a moment of feeling very uncomfortable in our clothing. You know what they say, with great pain comes growth.

But what if you could manufacture such an awakening without the pain of a dressing room meltdown or feeling under-dressed at an important event?

All of my style awakenings have been quite rude, so I set out to create an experience where women could safely and comfortably “awaken” and change their style for the better.

With that being said, I am happy to announce that my FREE 10-Day Style Awakening Challenge is here and I’d love for you to join!

What’s included:

  • A 10-Day Style Awakening Challenge workbook.
  • Membership to the private Style Awakening Facebook group.
  • Encouraging and educational emails from me (not a drop of junk) + a special surprise!

By the end of this challenge you will:

  • Finally have some clarity around your sense of style and what’s hanging in your closet.
  • Walk away with some power relationships with the other women inside the group and with me!
  • Learn a ton! I will be popping into the group daily for live lessons and feedback on your daily challenges.

Are you ready to join? The challenge officially starts March 26th, so snag your spot now.

Anti-Style Type: Street Walkin’ Sally

I’ll be first to admit that I lean more towards the modest side when it comes to style. When I do sexy, it’s subtle sexy all the way. No shade to my more sultry style types out there – when sexier styles are done right, it’s quite powerful.

What I do have a hard time with, is overtly sexy.

There are some who give credit to “confidence” for the ability to “put it all out there” with super sexy attire.

I call bullshit.

There are a ton of study that proves self-sexual objectification stems from a lack of confidence, and the negative consequences attached to this type of attire can affect your mental health, intellectual performance, and your overall well-being.

Yeah, that’s right, I actually study this shit.

This leads me to our final Anti-Style Type of the series … Street Walkin’ Sally!

>>WATCH NOW<<

Street Walkin’ Sally is basically walking sex. You see her, and you can’t help but make assumptions. We know it’s wrong, we know it’s bad, but we’re all thinking it: daddy issues, promiscuous … you get the drift. We can pretend we don’t think those things, but it’s typically our first impression of Sally.

Why does Sally dress this way? Is because she’s sexy and she knows it, or could something else be going on? Find out in today’s video!

How To Style A Sweater

A question I get all the time is, “How do you make sweaters more flattering?”

The short answer is: You don’t.

Sweaters are there to keep you warm. You don’t always have to look “slim” to be stylish. If you want some tips on styling sweaters to make them more flattering click here.

Quick Tip: Wear something elongating on the bottom like heels and skinny jeans to better show your silhouette while wearing a bulky sweater.

Anti-Style Type: Like-Me-For-Me Mary

People are judging you based on your appearance.

I’ve said variations of that phrase about a million and a half times over the course of my career, and every time I say it someone gets pissed off.

I’m not saying it’s right. I’m not saying that it’s fair. What I am saying is it’s true.

But when it “clicks” and you understand the truth, there is power in that. You can change the narrative with the switch of a shoe or the changing of a blouse. How amazing is that?!

Some of us will get it, some of us won’t. The ones that don’t are what I like to call “Like-Me-For-Me Mary.”

Yep, it’s time to meet our latest Anti-Style Type.

>>WATCH NOW<<

Like-Me-For-Me Mary is above this whole “fashion” thing. She wears whatever she wants (no matter how tattered, ugly, off-putting, or inappropriate it is) and expects you to embrace her regardless! She wants no part of the appearance game, yet wonders why she isn’t where she wants to be in her life.

Not gonna lie, this Anti-Style Type is a doozy. It hits a sore spot with people who are unwilling or unready to change. Watch if you dare and comment if you can relate.

How To Wear A Fanny Pack

Fanny packs have been historically un-hip. They are your standard dorky parent/ tourist accessory – not a good look. Until now!

Fanny packs are the bomb.com. Whether it’s fresh off the runway, vintage, or budget-friendly – you can rock a fanny pack and be cool.

The secret? Wearing it with something cool.

Forget the lame jeans and tee (although with the right accessories that could work too), and rock your fanny pack with something unexpected like a dress or jumpsuit.

Anti-Style Type: Alpha Amy

When it comes to getting dressed for work, men have it SO much easier!! Think about it. Men pretty much have three options when it comes to work attire:

1.) Suit and tie
2.) Khakis and a polo
3.) Button down shirt and nice jeans

That’s it!

In fact, their office environment chooses for them!! So really they don’t have to agonize over their wardrobes the way we do as women.

We first have to decide what to wear to work (too many combinations to list here), and then we have to decide if the outfit is too “distracting.”

Are we drawing too much attention to ourselves and our bodies? We want to express ourselves, but we also want to be taken seriously.

All of these swirling thoughts and decisions can be frustrating. So frustrating that some women throw in the towel and decide to dress like one of the guys instead.

Let’s meet Alpha Amy.

>>WATCH NOW<<

Alpha Amy is a boss. She’s smart, she’s driven, she’s hard-working, and truth be told, she doesn’t need a man. Alpha Amy gets shit done. She has been stepped on and talked down to, but she gets back up stronger and more resilient. She’s learned how the game is played in this “man’s world.” Her wardrobe choices are deliberate, calculated, and unfortunately cold.

In today’s video, I’m breaking down Alpha Amy and offering some simple solutions to bring a little more pleasure into your work wardrobe.
