Picture Perfect: Part 1

As part of my plan for (fashion) world domination I am working on a press kit, which includes fabulous photos of moi. I mean you can’t have a press kit without pictures now can you? No, you can’t and some crusty old pictures of me at the club simply won’t do. So I headed downtown to Allen Zaki’s studio for some professional fashion photography. I styled the five looks for the shoot, had a fabulous hair and makeup person (who made me look like a certified hottie), and of course Allen behind the camera.

Naughty and nice was kind of my theme. I combined mens fashion with girly Betsey clothes, spikes and studs with sexy Yoga Army pieces and of course it wouldn’t be me without a touch of vintage too.

I was totally nervous going in but I ended up having a blast. Sitting in the hair and makeup chair for 2 hours was too much fun, which sounds sarcastic but I am totally serious. Tiffani (makeup artist) was a hoot and Allen is a doll. We gossiped about bad TV and looked at fashion magazines … I was pretty much in heaven.

I brought along some of my favorite shoes … a different pair for every outfit.

Once it was time to shoot I thought I was going to be all scared, self-conscious, and awkward but as it turns out … I am a freaking natural 😉 I didn’t even do that stupid “way too big” smile thing that I do all the time. I just jammed out to Britney Spears and Fergie and hammed it up for the camera.

I am really excited about seeing the photos and of course I will post them here so make sure you come on back to read part 2!

My Dream Coat (Literally, Had a Dream)

Vintage White Marabou Feather Jacket Awesome

So … Back when I lived in DC there was this spectacularly awesome vintage store called Eclectic Threads (its still there so check it out if you are in the DC area.) I used to walk to it every weekend to pick up some vintage gear. Every time I walked in there was this awesome white feathered coat hanging on the wall. I never tried it on, I just looked at it.

Fast forward 2.5 years later … I wake up, make my egg whites, and suddenly I am thinking about the coat. I emailed Tara, the store owner, to ask her if the coat was still there. I didn’t think there was a chance in hell but what do you know, it was still there. Turns out someone bought it and then reconsigned it there. It’s a freaking miracle.

I am going to live in this beautiful feathered piece of heaven. I will wear it with a little black dress. I will wear it with jeans. I will wear it with anything. This shall be my most glorious purchase of the month.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Blair’s Caped Look

I was wondering if you know where I can find this look..

Ugh, didn’t you LOVE that look! I sure did. I have been stalking around the internet all day looking for it. The cape is rumored to be Chanel but I am still working on finding out if that is true and the headband is from Jennifer Behr. If anyone else comes up with more information on this look before I do, please let us know in the comment section.

Dear Fashion Kitty, T-Strap Shoes

I was wondering if you could track down a pair of shoes for me. The picture is attached and the shoes are (I’m assuming) from sometime this past spring because the picture is from prom. I’m hoping they’re still available because I am in love with them. If you could find them for me that would be amazing. Thanks!

Since those are from this past spring they are pretty hard to track down but I did find you some nice alternatives …

The Cherryl shoe from Aldo is pretty darn similar for only $100. The only thing missing is the peep toe.

The L’Effronte Peep To pumps from Les Prairies De Paris are on sale for 50% off. They are missing the t-strap but damn if they aren’t adorable and versatile.

I also love these from Michael Kors for a mere $138. Take it from me, Michael Kors shoes will last you a life time, not only in the style department but they will hold up nicely as well.

I totally dig these too, which are also from Michael Kors. They are probably a further departure from the others but, honestly, I like these the best for the buck.

Hope that was helpful. Happy shoe shopping!

Dear Fashion Kitty, Fall Wardrobe Advice

yaWhat would you say that I should incorporate in my wardrobe for Fall 2008? I need pieces that I could possible wear to work and out to dinner on a Saturday night..

Mmm love fall fashion … There are a ton of different looks that you can go for this fall 2008 and still be on top. Personally, I am going with a tough girl chic look — leather, ripped jeans, studs, spikes, with a sexed up girly edge.

My new look …

Fashion Kitty's New Look: Tough Girl Chic

See more of Fashion Kitty’s New Look: Tough Girl Chic list at ThisNext.

For your work wardrobe, I would incorporate boxy jackets, slouchy trousers (don’t mix the boxy with the slouchy though), ruffled blouses, and a nice purple structured handbag.

Something nice to go out to dinner on a Saturday would be a nice asymmetrical cut dress if you are doing a fancy dinner. For dinner out with the girls you can funk it up a bit with leather leggings, killer heels, and a dramatic bow blouse (steal it from your work wardrobe).

The great thing about fashion this fall is that there are some big extremes … super girly or super tough. Mix what you like from both trends to create your own unique look.

Here are my Top 10 (for now) Must-Haves for Fall 2008

1.) Colored tights
2.) Leather leggings
3.) Oxford booties
4.) Bows and ruffles
5.) Asymmetrical cuts
6.) Purple
7.) Gloves
8.) Boxy jackets
9.) Deep V-necks
10. ) Chunky sweaters

A few other trends to keep in mind for Fall 2008 …

1.)
Winter florals
2.) Slouchy trousers (perfect for the office)
3.) Thigh high boots
4.) Knit hats (hello, Alexander Wang)

Dear Fashion Kitty, Serena’s blazer

***Update****
The blazer is by Ralph Lauren but does not appear to be for sale online.

Recently I had seen a photo of Blake Lively in a white blazer. I really love the look and I would like to know who makes the blazer and where I can find one to purchase for myself. A photo is attached of Blake in the blazer I am talking about.

I have been hunting everywhere for this jacket with no luck. I found one similar at Victoria’s Secret in red but it’s nothing compared to this one. If anyone knows who makes this please leave it in the comments section.

Kitty Test Drive: MZ Wallace Handbags

M Z WALLACE- Espresso Capri Leather- Belle

Am I the only one that has noticed that the cost of shoes and handbags has shot up to unreasonable proportions?

Seriously, a high end designer handbags used to cost like $600 and now they are $1200 and above (unless you are like me and can score a Gucci for $750). Those bags are great and all but sometimes you just need a semi-affordable basic bag that isn’t going to fall apart on you.

Recently I have found that Linea Pelle does the trick for a great quality leather bag that doesn’t have a comma in the price tag. But since then a have been curious to see if there were other bags that could come close to competing.

I think I may have found a competitor. I was introduced to MZ Wallace a few weeks back and liked what I saw. They were even kind enough to let me test drive a bag to make sure they weren’t all talk. I mean, a bag can look good but can it feel good too? This bag does both. The leather is quality, the shape is classic, and the price is reasonable for a handbag that will work with your entire wardrobe. I mean can an “it” bag do all that? Well sometimes it can but it may go out of style before you have a chance to try.
