Faux Fur Vest for Fall 09

fur-vest-black

Q- I long for a black (faux) fur vest, but I can’t find one anywhere! (Well…it’s still summer) I want it to be a little over sized (just a BIT) so I can layer it with stuff. I would pair it with distressed jeans, studs, and plaid shirts. I’m all for the edgy, rock n’ roll look. I’m a high school student and really can’t spend too much money. I am so desperate to buy a faux fur vest before the rest of my classmates do. That sounds really shallow, but you know I mean right?

A- Of course I know what you mean. Nothing wrong with wanting to be first in fashion, especially at school. I spent a ton of time looking for my faux fur vest in white and now I also need to find a black one, for myself. I ended up finding my white one at a vintage store, and got a pretty nice deal on it. If you have time for vintage shopping, that might be a good option.

Anyway, I did some searching online and didn’t find much in the way of affordable fur vests but here is what I found (some are real fur) …

1- Made/ Short Mongolian Vest£190.00

2- Vince/ Mongolian Waistcoat- £750.00

3- Pepe/ Faux Mongoian Fur Gilet With Suede Back- £105.00

Happy Birthday Betsey!!

img_0074

Today was Betsey Johnson’s LA birthday party, so of course I had to be there. The party started at 5pm but I wanted to get there early so I could try on some clothes and play with my favorite Betsey girls (although my most favorite in the world no longer works there.)

All of the clothes in the store were amazing. The vintage skull pieces, fun florals, and the much anticipated Betsey Johnson for Opening Ceremony. I had the most fun with the Opening Ceremony pieces. The nearly passed out over the crazy fur sleeved dress, if I had $550 to blow it so would have been mind. The little pencil skirt and cherry print top were favorites of mine too. BUT my ultimate favorite turned out to be the long sleeved zip front mini dress. The dress is seriously HOT and super versatile.

Once the clock struck 5pm, I tucked my favorite little dress behind the register and anxiously waited for Betsey to arrive. Moments later she came dancing through the door in her black sequin leggings, pink blinged out tee, and chartreuse jacket.

Betsey was amazing as usual. She said a few words and told us that the next collection is going to be the best one yet. I for one can’t wait.

Anyways, the party was nuts. There was a line around the block for people who wanted Betsey’s autographed. Everyone there was dressed all crazy cool. The DJ was blasting music for all of Melrose to hear. All in all – good times were had by all.

PS- Forgot to tell you the best part — I left the party without buying the dress in an attempt to keep on my shopping diet. Halfway down La Brea, I turned the car around and sped back to the store. The dress was so incredibly wonderful, limited edition, and fabulous on me that I would be a fool not to get it. SO GLAD I went back for it too. I basically want to live in it. Its the most amazing dress ever in life.

Are Skulls a Timeless Trend?

skull

Is it just me or are skulls becoming a timeless trend? Just when I think they are going out of style, they come right back. I am thinking that skulls are like leopard print — always slightly tacky but also slightly fabulous when worn the correct way AND always around and in style. Feel me or am I alone on this one??

Casual-Fab Homecoming Attire

Q- I’m going to be a senior this year and I need a homecoming dress! I want something classy but ready-to-party, and I’d like to try doing something a little different than people normally do. I’m thinking about getting a more casual dress but wearing heels to dress it up? Please let me know what you think!

A- When I first read your email, my first reaction was “no!” No, you can’t go casual for a dance. BUT then I started looking for dresses and I found something killer that was bordering on casual but was also classy too. So now my answer is yes, yes we can do this.

Here is what I am thinking …

Juicy Couture at ShopStyle

A long sleeved dress will be totally unexpected. Its classy and its kinda sexy because its short. The black says evening and the length is perfect for showing off a killer pair of heels. Right??? Hope you dig it.

Style Advice for the Boring

Q- I dress so boring. My non-work outfits seem to always be white or black t-shirts with boot cut jeans. I LOVE clothes but I am so confused about what would look nice on me (especially the type of jeans I can wear). I am 24 and I am not sure how to dress my age or body. Would you please give me some ideas of what to wear in the fall? I am 5’6 and around 140lbs. I have large hips/thighs and a very large butt. I am also fair skinned. Even though I don’t have a style now I do love things with feminine details. I would also like to incorporate a little more edge into my wardrobe. Also my budget is tiny.

A– OK, stop dressing so boring!! Bring some color into your life and some fabulous shoes for goodness sake! You can look fabulous (and not boring) in jeans and tee shirt by adding a few elements to the look. Try adding a nice cardigan or a leather jacket if you want something edgier. Throw on some accessories; a cute necklace or a little scarf. Adding accessories is the most efficient way to add some style to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Here is your boring outfit with a non-boring twist:

A bootcut jean is perfect for you because it will help balance out your shape. Adding pointy pumps to the mix will elongate you and make you look thinner. I also went with a v-neck tee and a wrap cardigan, which is very slimming and draws the eye down. Finishing the look with a fun necklace will immediately remove you from boringsville too!

Freaky Masks Paired with Pretty Dresses

Call me crazy, but I am fixated on these weird/freaky-cool animals masks. They totally remind me of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which we all know is a fabulous movie. I just want to roll up to a fancy party in a fabulous designer dress while rocking one of these kooky masks.

Fall 2009 Trend Alert: Punk Rock Queen

ramone2_366753a

For fall 2009 I am totally inspired by music when it comes to fashion. You saw it in my Goth Goddess, Grunge Glam, and my Courtney Love style inspiration post.  This time I am looking to punk rock for some style inspiration. Like the other trends, we’ve got black and we’ve got boots (combat boots) but with trend we are adding in tartan plaids, spikes, leather, skinny jeans, safety pins, and other magical punk rock elements.

Fall 2009 Fashion: Punk Rock Queen

I am really loving the Moschino safety pin dress (top left) it looks AMAZING up close. Also, the Betsey Johnson skull sweater dress … need that!
