Stylish Short Flat(ish) Boots

boots

Q- I am in desperate need of a pair of short flat boots for fall. I have been looking for a pair for a year.

A- The only pair of short flat boots that I need are my Minnetonka boots — love those. However, your question sparked my search and I started see some short flat and flat-ish boots that are really cool.

My first favorites are the two pictured plus this pair from Elizabeth and James. They are totally stylish and Elizabeth and James products are made incredibly well.

I am also a fan of these:

1.) BCBG Falla Flat Boot

2.) Steve Madden Jaggg flat boot

3.) Buckle flat boot from Charlotte Russe

Trend Alert: Mouse(ing) Around

As a kid I was never that into Mickey Mouse, like I was into it but I wasn’t like a full on junkie or anything. I was however really big into Mickey Mouse as a fashion statement. I am sure I have told this story a thousand times but I had this gray Mickey Mouse tee shirt when I was a kid. I wore it to bed every night, it was so rad, but one day my Mom tossed it. Maybe because I always put my knees in the shirt and completely stretched it out. Or maybe because the white fabric paint called Mickey’s face totally chipped off … Anyways, whatever the reason since then I have always wanted to work Mickey back into my wardrobe.

Cut to right now, Mickey is finally making its fashionable comeback. From vintage Mickey apparel to just wearing full on mouse ears for no reason – the mouse is cool again.

How to Wear a Faux Fur Vest

Q- I bought a faux fur vest similar to the BB Dakota one and have no clue how to wear it for fall. Could you help? I am in college and would like something casual for class and going out.

A- Fur (and faux fur) vests are one of my favorite pieces to wear for fall. For day I like to wear a fur vest how its pictured above: with a bohemian dress, tights, and boots because its pretty much a no-brainer and always looks great. Now, for going out … I like to kick it up a bit with some edginess like this:

Preppy-Neon Time

Q- I recently bought these Diesel flats at an incredible price (I couldn’t resist)! The only problem is I don’t know how to wear them without looking tacky. I don’t want them to be the center of attention of my outfit but the color makes it hard. What can I wear to downplay its brightness? I have a conservative style so I don’t want to look like I’m regressing to the 80’s.

A- So do-able! Also, those shoes are fly — good choice. I would wear the shoes with a pair of cropped black cigarette pants, a black and white tweed blazer, and some preppy little pearls. The shoes are still the focus color-wise but since there are also interesting elements going on with the outfit, you won’t look like a walking glow stick.

Vintage Brown Leather Jacket

Q- My mom went thrifting and got me a great brown leather jacket, and I don’t know what to wear with it. Also, I’ve got black pointy-toed leather boots that I wear all the time. Can you mix black and brown leathers? Help!

A-So funny, I got a brown leather jacket from a vintage store and I also had trouble trying to find things to wear with it. You can check out some of the photos that I added to the top of the post for some casual inspiration or you can go with my favorite look. My favorite way being, wearing a brown leather jacket with a floral dress and cowboy boots. Something about that combo get me every time. As for mixing brown and black leather, you do it if you think it looks right. I would recommend adding another black element int your ensemble to successfully pull it off. Get me?

Black Sequin Skirt Style

sequin-skirt

Q- I bought this short black sequined skirt almost a year ago and still haven’t worn it. It is almost like the one in the picture, except mine is not elastic-y, it more like a jean skirt type of structure. I’m looking for a way to wear it casually? I’m 5″6 and 98lbs, and my style is kind of Erin Watsson meets Rihanna meets Keira Knightley.

A- You left off the picture in your email but I think I’ve got the idea. Here is what I am thinking … black opaque tights, tee or tank top, denim jacket, a beanie, and some cool booties.  This will give you the perfect casual sequin look (as casual as sequins can get without being tacky.) I would totally wear this look, hope you dig it too.

I’m Getting Married in Temperly

temperly

Okay, so I’m not actually getting married (thought that headline might catch your attention) but if I do, it will be in Temperley London.

Yesterday I went to Temperley London (and everywhere else to shop in Los Angeles … more on that later) with Luke Storey and The School of Style for a little stylist shopping training. I have never been a girl that gushes and goes all starry eyed when I see a wedding dress, but when I saw this particular dress I melted. I wish the photo did the dress justice, I really do. It is AMAZING in person. It will literally take your breath away. The details are exquisite, the cut is so playful and magica … in fact, I think I cried a little fashion tear when I left the dress.
