I’ve been on a bit of jewelry kick lately. I think fun costume jewelry is an easy and awesome way to glam up your look with little to no effort. Right now I am really into statement necklaces and rings. In the last few weeks I have added a lot of both to my wardrobe.

Yesterday I went to Forever 21’s jewelry store … I think its called Love21. Anyways, I scored on the ring tip. I bought like a million rings and spent like $2. Okay, maybe I spend a bit more than that and got a bit less than a million rings but you get what I’m sayin’

Here is some of the fun stuff I got (they don’t have the majority of the stuff I got online):

Helpful Hint: Get a Good Tailor

20080707192553mysingaporetailorcom-000005047355xsmall

I’ve been telling everyone to get a good tailor for a long time but honestly, I’ve never really practiced what I preached. Until now. And holy smokes having a good tailor in your back pocket is awesome!!!!! AWESOME!!!

With all of the latest shopping trips that I’ve been on, I’ve purchased quite a few pieces that didn’t fit me perfectly. Usually I would have just dealt with it or I wouldn’t have bothered buying them. However since I’ve been styling and get things tailored for other people pretty frequently, I was able to see the light and the magic.

I took armful of pieces to my tailor Marina and she worked it! For $130 I have some sick pieces that now fit me like a glove. My custom made leather pants that were too long = perfect. My Rick Ownens jeans that were too big in the waist = perfect. My Proenza Schouler dress that took long for me because I am not a super model = perfect. Ditto on my Margiela dress. The Givenchy dress that was on sale for $125 (from around $2k) at Barney’s because of a broken zipper is now perfect and it only cost me $20.

I am so in love. Everything is going to the tailor now. I am hooked.

So moral of this blog post, if you don’t have an amazing tailor … go get one!!

Oops I Went to Barney’s Again

As I blogged earlier, I went to the Barney’s Warehouse Sale on the first day and dominated life. Well I was “forced” to go back to the sale today because I realized I was over charged for two of my previous purchases. Knowing full well that me going in to get the price adjustment would result in me spending more money but I couldn’t help it!! They slashed the prices and it was unbelievable.

The women’s Co-op section was an extra 25% off, shoes an extra 50% off, women’s designer an extra 60%, “as is” rack 75%, and the jeans an extra 75% off too. Yeah, CRAZY deals. The 7 1/2 and 8 section of the shoes was pretty much completely wiped out so I didn’t score there but I did on the “as is” rack and on the women’s designer clothes section.

On the “as is” rack I found a Givenchy dress that was originally almost $2000 for a mere $125 after the 75% off. The only issue was a broken zipper. I took it to my tailor right after I left and she is fixing it for $20. Score!! The dress is hot that it’s practically on fire.

I also nabbed an Ann Demuelemeester vest from the Spring 2010 RTW collection of $145. The originally price tag fell off, so I don’t know how much I saved but I am sure it was a bundle.

I left a few pieces behind that will probably keep me up all night and/or result in me heading back to Barney’s tomorrow … a pair of Gareth Pugh pants, a few Rick Owens tees, and a Givenchy cardigan/wrap.

So amazing. I love the Barney’s Warehouse Sale!!

Wasteland: Not a Waste Afterall

824338397_e551bcde3a

My opinion of Wasteland, a designer re-sale store, was pretty nasty in the past but then again a lot of my opinions were pretty nasty in the past 🙁 I thought that the salespeople were snooty and picky when they didn’t buy all of my old crap. However, recently my opinion changed.  Now I can clearly see that the salespeople weren’t being picky they were clearly doing their jobs, and well.  How did I come to this shocking realization? I actually shopped for clothes at Wasteland while waiting my turn in line to sell items from my closet. Yep, I took a pretty long cruise around Wasteland on Melrose (their staff has always been kind, Santa Monica location still kinda iffy) and was delighted with what I found.

I only looked through the designer racks because I’m just not interested in hand-me-downs from H&M. Don’t get me wrong, I love H&M but I love it more when its right from the store. On the designer racks I found Rick Owens, Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Comme des Garcons, Helmut Lang, and even Chanel.

I probably tried on a dozen things (helpful tip don’t trust the mirror inside the dressing room, walk over to the three-way mirror) and ended up walking away with three awesome gems: a YSL jacket, a Mason Martin Margiela dress, and a Dolce & Gabanna top.

Sure I ended up spending more than I sold but it was refreshing to get all that old stuff out of my closet, only to put some better old crap in its place 😉

School Of Style New York = Smash Hit!

school of style new york

I just realized just now that I haven’t really wrote about School Of Style‘s first NYC class. Sure, I managed to write about all the shopping Luke and I did but I failed to mention the reason we went 🙂

After months and months of thinking about it, we took School Of Style to New York for the first time last month. We had no idea how the class would turn out. We didn’t know how the New York students would act. Would they think they were all that just because they were in NYC? Would they think our class was just for silly LA people? Well all of our fears turned out to be totally ridiculous because the students LOVED the class.

50 students packed the Ace Hotel, where we held the class, and each and everyone of them loved our class! More of them would have loved it too but the class sold out!!! Insane right? We couldn’t let more than 50 people in.

Anyways, thank you so much to everyone who came out for the class. We had a blast. So much of a blast that we are coming back in October. So if you are interested … sign up before it sells out. Oh and be sure to hit Century 21 while you are there (hehe).

Barney’s Warehouse Sale = BEST EVER!

barneys warehouse sale 2010

I’ve known about the Barney’s Warehouse Sale for years, yet I’ve never been. Why? I don’t know, stupidity I suppose. Well this year was different. Luke and I woke up early and headed downtown to shop to our hearts content. The sale started at 8am, we got there at 9am and stayed until 3pm. 6 hours of shopping. That has to be some sort of record.

Anyhow, we dominated. I won’t go through everything Luke bought because, well, this is my blog … But I can tell you everything that I got, which was $3200 worth of merchandise for under $1000. Incredible. I am so going back on the last day of the sale when the major markdowns come into play.

Here is what I scored:

– Maison Martin Margiela booties from the runway

– Barney’s Co-op boots

– Phillip Lim top

– Ann Demeulemeester top

– J Brand/ Duarte jeans

– Helmut Lang skirt

– Alexander Wang dress

– CARDIGAN sweater

I am soooo happy with my finds. Did you go to the sale? What did you get?

Shoe Sale-ing

Over the past few months I have been doing some MAJOR closet cleaning. Like a serious out with the old type of thing. No more hot pink, no more Betsey Johnson, no more flowers, no more tulle, and buh-bye bows … That part of me is gone. The clothes have been phasing their way out of my closet for months and the other day it was finally time to get rid of the shoes. It wasn’t as hard as I thought but I did end up getting rid of a LOT of shoes.

Like the majority of my shoes.

I was reminded that all the empty shoe space in my closet would eventually be filled up with better/more awesome shoes. How true was that?! Yesterday was sale shopping day and lets just say … I scored!!!

First stop was the Decades 2 sale on Melrose. All of the shoes were $150 or less. I wasn’t one of the pyschos who waited in line all morning for the deals. I just wandered in hours after the sale started. Even with my sale tardiness, I still scored. I found three great pairs of shoes (Prada boots, Giuseppe peep toe pumps, and Lanvin sneakers). I resisted the urge to get all three and just ended up with the Lanvin sneakers. I have wanted these shoes for a LONG time but the $600 price tag made them out of the question. Thanks to this sale, I got them (in silver) brand new for $150.

lan21rbaifrebei_2Next it was off to Maxfield Bleu in Beverly Hills for their big sale. The sale was ridiculously awesome, especially the shoe selection. If I had more money I would have bought at least 6 pairs. I ended up with 2 pairs. 2 fabulous pairs of shoes, both by Givenchy.

Givenchy Shoe #1 -originally $775, mine for $199

givenchy-01Givenchy Shoe #2- originally $995, mine for $239

givenchy-2

Both shoes are seriously sick!!! They are so sexy and so comfortable. My shoe game has seriously increased. Love!!

Yay! Barney’s Sale in NYC

barneys-ny

It’s no secret that Barney’s has fast become my favorite store ever in life. Whenever there is a sale (or a styling job with a budget) you can bet I will be at Barneys.  You can’t be in New York without hitting the Barneys in New York right? Right.

The Barneys in NYC is massive. It is 8 floors of magic and the store is split in half — longways. That means 8 floors for the gals and 8 floors for the guys. Amazing!

Luke and I spent a few good hours in there. During that time we spotted Axl Rose from Guns n Roses, Luke scored a Dior tie, and I scored a pair of Marni flats.

199-axl-rose1

Marni gold flats, originally $556 on sale for $229. Booyah! They are going to go so nicely with new wardrobe.
