Secrets to Help You Look Incredible in Your Brand Photoshoot!

As an entrepreneur, influencer, or business owner, you’ll likely need professional photos of yourself representing your brand. These photos can be used on your website, Instagram, or for headshots when you speak or attend an event. In this blog, I will share some secrets to help you look incredible in your brand photoshoot.

A wardrobe can be a stressful part of the process, even if you are a professional stylist. You must be strategic when choosing what to wear for your brand photos. It’s not just going into your closet and pulling out some outfits.

#1

Consider the clothes you’re wearing wear the image you’re trying to portray. Do they represent your brand? Think about the qualities of your brand, and if your brand was a human, what do you think they would want to wear? For instance, during my last brand photo shoot, I wanted to ensure my clothes aligned with my brand colors. So, I wore a lot of pinks because my brand has a lot of pink in it. I wanted to ensure that the clothes showed a certain level of edge but still were approachable. Pick out clothes that are in alignment with that.

#2

You want to consider whether the clothes you wear are flattering to your figure. You don’t always have to dress to flatter your figure, but it’s essential to consider flattering your figure when taking brand photos. You want to show yourself in the most accurate light and the vibe to make you feel comfortable. Wearing baggy or unflattering clothes might be comfortable, but it doesn’t look great in photos. Pick out clothes that accentuate your best features and make you feel confident.

#3

Spend money to get the right clothes. Think about spending money, but in a different way. Some people tend to cheap out when it comes to their brand photos because it can be a more expensive endeavor. But you will use these photos for a long time, at least a year or more. If you need to, hire a stylist. Even if you’re a professional stylist, it’s worth investing in a stylist who can get you the clothes you require during the photo shoot to ensure everything looks perfect.

If you’re buying clothes specifically for the photo shoot, you can write those off on your taxes. So, it’s a worthwhile investment to spend on clothes, especially if you’ll use them for a long time.

The three tips to remember for a successful brand photoshoot are brand alignment, figure flattery, and investment in the right clothes. Use these tips to create a memorable and stunning brand photoshoot that represents your brand accurately.

Sacrifices I Made in my 20’s That Helped Me Succeed

Have you ever made a sacrifice that made you uncomfortable but knew it was worth it? Gifts are often essential to our success, and in today’s video, I’ll be discussing the sacrifices I made in my 20s that helped me achieve my goals.

I was almost shocked when I compiled this list of sacrifices because it reminded me of the lengths I went to achieve my goals. They weren’t necessarily dramatic but significant because they challenged me to move out of my comfort zone.

My first sacrifice was moving out of my apartment and into a new one with a roommate. As an introvert, living with someone was my worst nightmare. However, I needed to live closer to Hollywood, where I worked as a stylist, and I couldn’t afford to live alone. I barely knew the girl I moved in with, but it was something I needed to do to achieve my goals.

The second sacrifice was cleaning out my closet and removing anything that didn’t support the person I was becoming. When you love fashion and clothes, getting rid of things you’ve accumulated over time isn’t easy. However, when building a business, you must be intentional about what you wear. My friend came over to help me clean out my closet, and we got rid of so much stuff. I was worried I wouldn’t have anything to wear, but my friend reminded me that I was making room for what I was supposed to have.

My third sacrifice was quitting drinking, smoking, and doing drugs. I decided to become Stone Cold Sober, which was a huge sacrifice but allowed me to focus on my goals. I could wake up without a hangover and be productive throughout the day.

The fourth sacrifice was phasing out unsupportive and unaligned friends. My old friends didn’t mesh with my new lifestyle, and it was distracting to have them around. It was tough to let them go, but it was the right decision. I was leaving the partying lifestyle behind and working on building my business.

If you’re looking to achieve your goals, consider making some sacrifices. These sacrifices weren’t easy, but they helped me succeed in my career. They allowed me to live a different life in my 30s, 40s, and beyond. It might be uncomfortable initially, but it will be worth it.

I hope this post inspired you to make sacrifices and work towards your goals.

Why I Decided to Disappoint My Parents

Hey, everyone! Today’s blog post is about something that most of us have experienced at some point – the fear of disappointing our parents. I want to share my experience with this issue and explain why I decided to disappoint my parents by pursuing my dream of becoming a stylist.

First, let me clarify that there are two types of disappointment. The first is when you screw up, and your parents say, “I’m not angry; I’m just disappointed.” That’s the worst feeling ever, and you should avoid it. You don’t want to hurt your parents’ feelings or be a bad kid, so try to behave yourself and make them proud.

The second type of disappointment is when you go after your dreams, especially a goal you know you were meant to do, and your parents don’t support you. This kind of disappointment is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s okay to disappoint your parents if you know your actions are right for you.

I’ve known since I was a little girl that I loved fashion. My earliest memories are of me playing dress-up and making clothes for my Barbies. I was a total introvert and couldn’t communicate or express myself until I got my hands on some style. Fashion was my language, allowing me to connect with people and express myself in ways I couldn’t before.

I started a fashion club in high school and put on fashion shows. I loved fashion so much that I decided to go to college to study fashion design. When I told my parents about my decision, they were hesitant. My mom had shared with me that she also wanted to go into fashion when she was my age, but she worked in retail. She thought that’s what would happen to me too. My dad made a deal with me; if I went to a fashion college in-state, he would help pay for my education. If I went out of state, I was on my own.

After I graduated, I realized that most fashion design jobs paid very little, so I worked retail instead. I got a nine-to-five job to pay the bills, but my dreams were almost crushed. My parents were almost right; I was close to clothes but wasn’t living my dream.

However, after a few years of working a nine-to-five job, I quit pursuing styling. I’ll never forget the phone call to my mom. I told her I had left my job but didn’t have a new one. I was $18,000 in debt and had negative money. I could feel her disappointment, but I knew I was meant to do this. I was told to work in fashion and be my boss. I was going to make it work, and I did.

Over the past 13 years, I’ve had a successful career as a stylist, making millions and millions of dollars. If I had listened to my parents, I would have lived a completely different life and wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m glad that I decided to disappoint them and follow my dreams.

I’m not saying that you should disappoint your parents for the sake of it. Instead, think about what you want to do, and don’t let someone else’s opinion of your future stop you from trying. It’s better to try and fail than to wonder what could have been.

Disappointing your parents is not necessarily bad, especially if you’re pursuing your dream. I’m glad I decided to disappoint my parents and become a stylist.

How To Put Together a Pinterest Board

Pinterest is one of the most powerful tools for gathering inspiration and developing your style. I use Pinterest daily to find inspiration for myself, my clients, and my programs. However, many people struggle to assemble a great Pinterest board. In this blog post, I’ll share some tips and tricks for creating a great Pinterest board to help you get the most out of this fantastic tool.

Use the tool

The first and most important tip is to use Pinterest regularly. The more you use Pinterest, the more it will learn about your interests and preferences, and the better it will be at suggesting ideas and inspiration for your boards. Ensure you follow people and boards that inspire you and re-pin images you love. This will help keep your home page and discover feed fresh and exciting.

Improve your search

Instead of just searching for generic terms like “leather pants,” try to be more specific and creative with your search terms. For example, search for “cute leather pants outfits for women” or “leather pants street style.” Adding the word “aesthetic” to your search can also help you find more visually appealing and inspiring images.

Use the “More Like This” feature.

When creating a board, scroll down to the bottom of the page and see a “More Like This” section. Clicking on this will show you images similar to the ones you’ve already pinned, which can help you find more inspiration and ideas for your board.

Ask yourself why you like an image.

Before you pin an image to your board, ask yourself why you like it. Is it the color, the style, the texture, or something else? This will help you create a more cohesive and consistent board that reflects your style and preferences.

Take your time

Finally, don’t rush when creating your Pinterest board. Take your time and enjoy the process. Review your board regularly and delete images that don’t fit your style or aesthetic. Remember, your Pinterest board reflects you, so make sure it’s something you’re proud of and excited to share with others.

Happy pinning! Pinterest is an incredible tool for finding inspiration and developing your style. Using these tips and tricks, you can create a Pinterest board that reflects your style and preferences and helps you get the most out of this fantastic tool.

THIS is Why You Aren’t Getting Repeat Styling Clients

Are you struggling to get repeat clients for your styling business? If so, you’re not alone. In this blog post, I will explain three reasons clients aren’t rebooking with you and what you can do about it.

You didn’t follow up.

Your clients aren’t thinking about you 24 hours a day. They have their own busy lives to worry about. That’s why it’s essential to follow up with them. Stay top of mind by creating content and reaching out to them regularly. Remember, top of mind equals pockets lined. The more your clients think about you, the more likely they will rebook with you.

You don’t have any next steps available to them.

Your clients might not know that they can work with you again. Educate them on the next logical steps they can take with you. Do you offer styling services for multiple seasons? Do you have a loyalty program? Make sure you have something to offer your clients so they can work with you again.

You didn’t knock it out of the park.

Let’s face it: not everyone is going to love your work. However, you must ensure you’re doing an incredible job for your clients. Ensure you’re focusing on the customer journey and providing a tip-top experience from start to finish. You won’t get rebooked or receive referrals if your services fall short.

If you’re not getting repeat clients, it’s essential to follow up with them, educate them on their next steps with you, and make sure you’re doing an incredible job. By doing so, you’ll be on your way to growing a successful styling business.

When Your Client Lies About Their Clothing Size

Working with clients who lie about their clothing size can be a frustrating and challenging experience. It can cause issues during the shopping process and fitting sessions and lead to disappointment for both the stylist and the client. This article will explore how to handle the situation when your client lies about their clothing size.

Asking clients to try something on in the size they think they are and asking them to breathe out fully or sit down is one way to get a sense of their actual size. If the client is uncomfortable, suggest that they try something more comfortable. Alternatively, you can have them try on the measures you believe would fit them best without telling them or revealing the size and ask them how they feel.

However, these solutions only address the surface-level issue of the client’s lying about their size. It is essential to understand that there are often underlying reasons why someone may lie about their clothing size. It could be related to their upbringing and the expectations placed upon them by their parents, or it could be due to insecurities and societal pressures.

As a stylist, judging or making assumptions is not our place. Instead, we should focus on educating our clients on the truths of the fashion industry. The fashion industry does not have a universal sizing system, and every brand, designer, and company use different fit models. It is why one person can be a size four, and another person could be a size four, but they’re entirely different size fours. European designers’ sizing also differs from American designers, and there is vanity sizing and size exclusion for particular brands.

By educating our clients on these industry standards, we can help them understand that the problem is not with them but with the fashion industry’s sizing system. We can also help them become more confident and comfortable in their bodies by reminding them that their clothing size does not define their worth or beauty.

So when a client lies about their clothing size, it is crucial to approach the situation with empathy, understanding, and education. By doing so, we can help our clients feel more confident and comfortable in their bodies and create a positive and empowering styling experience.

Personal Stylist vs. Celebrity Stylist: What’s the Difference?

As a personal stylist, it’s essential to understand the differences between a personal stylist and a celebrity stylist. Celebrity stylists style celebrities, while personal stylists style real people, be it an internet celebrity, a mom down the block, or someone in any industry who is not a celebrity. This blog post will explore the differences between these two types of stylists and understand their unique roles in the fashion industry.

Celebrity Stylist

The primary job of a celebrity stylist is to create an image for the celebrity they are styling, ensuring they look their best in front of the camera. As the name suggests, celebrity stylists style celebrities for different occasions, whether red-carpet events, television appearances, or just a casual day out. They work closely with designers and brands, borrowing clothing from them to create a unique look for their clients. Usually, they use the celebrity as free advertising for the brands they work with.

The job of a celebrity stylist is not just limited to shopping for clothing and accessories. They must also watch the latest runway shows and know which outfit would look perfect on their client. They also need to create a unique image for their client, which can help change the narrative of how people think about them. For instance, Lady Gaga is known for constantly recreating her appearance, and a stylist plays a significant role in bringing that image to life.

Personal Stylist

The job of a personal stylist is to help create an image for their clients which reflects their personality, profession, and lifestyle. In contrast to celebrity stylists, personal stylists work with real people. They could be an internet celebrity, a mom down the block, or someone in any industry who is not considered a celebrity.

Unlike celebrity stylists, personal stylists shop for their clients at retailers, pulling pieces that suit their client’s needs, body types, and unique styles. They work closely with clients, understanding their preferences, likes and dislikes, and budgets to create a personalized wardrobe that fits their client’s needs.

One of the key differences between a personal stylist and a celebrity stylist is that a personal stylist pulls from retailers. In contrast, a celebrity stylist pulls from the runway or lookbooks. While a personal stylist focuses on cultivating an image, shopping, and putting together looks, a celebrity stylist’s job is to build relationships with designers and brands, creating unique ideas for their clients.

Conclusion

Both personal and celebrity stylists have different roles in the fashion industry. While celebrity stylists work with stars, personal stylists work with real people, creating a personalized wardrobe that reflects their clients’ personalities, professions, and lifestyles. Both stylists are essential in the fashion industry, as they help create unique images that reflect their client’s styles and personalities. As a personal stylist, it’s necessary to understand the differences between the two and their roles in the fashion industry.

4 Tips to Go from Struggling to Thriving in Business

As a business owner, facing struggles and setbacks is not uncommon. However, it’s important to remember that you can turn things around and thrive with the right mindset and actions. In this blog post, I’ll share four tips to help you go from struggling to succeeding in your personal styling business.

Tip #1: Invest in Yourself

Investing in yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your business. This means taking courses, attending workshops, and working with coaches who can help you learn new skills and strategies. The more you know, the better you’ll be able to serve your clients and stand out from your competition.

When I first started as a stylist, I invested in a course that taught me how to become a stylist. Later, I hired my first business coach, who helped me overcome my struggles and take my business to the next level. Today, I continue to invest in myself and my business to keep growing and evolving.

Tip #2: Do the Work

Simply investing in yourself won’t guarantee success. It would be best if you also work to see results. If you’re struggling in your business, ask yourself if you’re indeed doing everything possible to move forward. Are you investing time and effort to market your business, reach potential clients, and deliver high-quality services? If not, it’s time to buckle down and start doing the work.

Tip #3: Be Patient and Consistent

Business success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and consistency to build a thriving business. Don’t get discouraged if you do not see immediate results. Stay focused on your goals and keep pushing forward. Make a plan, stick to it, and enjoy the journey. Remember that every step forward is a step in the right direction.

Tip #4: Raise Your Frequency and Prices

Finally, if you’re struggling to make ends meet, it might be time to raise your prices. Many business owners are under charge for their services and feel burnt out and frustrated. When you grow your expenses, you increase your revenue and attract higher-paying clients who value your expertise and services.

To raise your frequency and prices, start by doing the inner work. Take time to meditate, read, and work on your business. As you become more confident in your skills and value, you’ll be able to charge more for your services confidently.

Don’t give up hope if you’re struggling in your personal styling business. By investing in yourself, doing the work, being patient and consistent, and raising your frequency and prices, you can turn things around and start thriving. Remember to enjoy the journey and celebrate every success along the way.

The Sad Stylists Types

As a successful stylist and founder of the Style Boss Academy, I’ve seen it all in the industry. I’ve come across some sad stylist types, and in this blog post, I will share them with you. If you identify with any of these, it’s time to change.

The first sad stylist type is Copycat Cara. This stylist doesn’t have an original idea and decides to copy everything from successful stylists. Copycat Cara will copy everything from a successful stylist’s website to their Instagram bio, and it’s not flattering; it’s sad. Copying someone else won’t make you successful. You must forge your path, learn from the best, and create something unique.

The second sad stylist type is Nine to Five Nora. Nora complains about her nine-to-five job and dreams of being a stylist. She’s been singing this song for ten years now. It’s time to either quit or get off the fence. Being stuck in a job you hate is sad, and it’s time to make a change.

The third sad stylist type is Sally Step Skipper. This stylist wants to be a stylist, so she sets up an Instagram account and changes her bio. She looks at other stylists’ websites, puts together a package, and sets up a website. The problem? She skipped all the essential business steps, like branding and social media. Businesses are built in a specific order, and you won’t get results if you miss steps.

The fourth sad stylist type is Perfectionist Penelope. This stylist wants everything to be perfect, so she gets stuck. She hasn’t perfected her logo yet, so she keeps working on it. Done is better than ideal sometimes, and there’s no such thing as perfection. It’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them.

If you identify with any of these sad stylist types, it’s time to change. Don’t be afraid to learn from the best; forge your path and create something unique. Don’t get stuck in a job you hate; make a change. Don’t skip the necessary steps in starting a business, and don’t strive for perfection. Remember, done is better than perfect, and there’s no such thing as perfection. It’s time to stop being a sad stylist and become successful.

Is AI Replacing Personal and Celebrity Stylists?

Today, I want to discuss a topic that’s been on my mind recently – the rise of AI technology and whether it’s replacing personal and celebrity stylists. I came across a video on Instagram where they talked about how artificial intelligence will replace stylists, and it got me thinking about the future of the fashion industry.

The video my friend sent me talked about how even high-end designers use AI technology to help customers choose their clothes. They claimed that this technology could replace personal stylists and even celebrity stylists. But in my opinion, that’s just crazy. AI technology and subscription-style boxes are not the same as working with a personal stylist.

Let’s talk about subscription-style boxes for a moment. Years ago, the New York Times interviewed me and asked for my opinion on subscription-style boxes. I told them that they were crap. Yes, you heard me right. They are crap. An algorithm differs from a stylist, who cannot pick out your clothes successfully. I don’t care what anyone says. I hate to break it to you, but everyone else is getting those boxes full of cheap clothes. That’s not personal style.

They say a stylist will handpick a box for you, but that’s false. An algorithm picks it, and then there’s a person who’s probably making minimum wage to check it and tweak it. They’re not stylists. They’re just there to ensure the algorithm didn’t screw up.

Similarly, Rhonda, the AI robot, is not a stylist. It’s just a robot programmed to give you advice based on your size and shirt color. But that’s not what a personal stylist does. They get to know you on a deeper level. They understand your body’s insecurities, budget, dreams, and passions. They’ll pick clothes from various retailers, not just a limited selection from one company.

A personal stylist will design looks tailored to you and your unique style. They’ll interact with you, advise you, and help you build confidence in your fashion choices. That kind of interaction is life-changing. You can’t get that kind of connection from an algorithm or a robot.

Some might argue that subscription-style boxes and AI technology are more affordable and accessible to the average person. But here’s the thing – if you’re buying a luxury service like having a personal stylist, you’re not the average person. You’re someone who values style and fashion, and you’re willing to invest in yourself.

To put it in perspective, think about personal trainers. During the pandemic, gyms were closed, and people had to resort to working out at home with AI-powered workout mirrors. But as soon as the gyms reopened, people returned to their trainers. They wanted human interaction and personalized attention you can’t get from a mirror. It’s the same with personal stylists.

There will always be a need for human stylists. AI technology and subscription style boxes may be helpful for some people, but they’re not the same as having a stylist who understands you and your unique style. So, to answer the question in the title – no, AI is not replacing personal and celebrity stylists.
