Target’s Bullseye Bodega = An Overpriced Wal-Mart

For my last day in New York City I decided to stop into Target‘s Bullseye Bodega to see what all the hype was about. Well, hype was all it was because I thought this bodega sucked a big one.

The concept was interesting. Offer brand new designer lines from Target in four little shops around NYC and make them look like bodegas. Fun, right? Not to me. It was crowded as hell in there and the atmosphere was kinda crappy … like a real bodega.

Maybe it was my fear of large crowds rummaging around for discount products that turned me off but I didn’t really see anything worth standing in line for and I love Target.

In my opinion, Target is getting a little out of control with these designer bargain collections. I was in Target the other day and I saw a pretty teal colored eyeliner. I put that bitch in my cart only to find out later that it was $18. Um, I don’t go to Target for $18 eyeliner! Helloooo … that’s why we have Sephora, people!

I don’t know, maybe I am just being a brat but I was totally horrified by this little Target bodega. Did anyone else go?? What did you think??

I’m Moving!

Anyone who follows me on Twitter should know that I am moving out of my Hollywood apartment and into a new apartment in Culver City. I am so excited but this is also stressful as all hell. I have been out of town for weeks, I have to buy all new furniture, re-paint my old apartment, pack, move, and try to keep a float at the office. So, um, posting might be a little slow (I say slow but that could be total horse shit too.) I will also be posting about my decorating as the weeks go on (think Betseyville/Kittyville), which will be pretty fun I think. So keep checking back in on me and wish me luck with my move.

NY Fashion Week Diary Day 5: The Best Day of My Life (part 4)

We have finally reached the final installment of the best day of my life (told you it was a full day)

After the runway show I left the tents to spend the day with my girls; Jane (my manager when I worked at Betsey) and my friend Jenny (worked with me at Betsey and a friend since middle school.) It was so awesome hanging out with my old friends. It’s always nice to catch up and getting that old feeling back.

We ran around New York City in our Betsey Johnson heels, ate pizza (can’t escape that crap in New York), and talked about the show. After all of that fun wrapped up Jenny and I headed to the Betsey Johnson showroom in hopes of maybe getting to go inside. Well, we did!!!!!!!

The showroom is ridiculously fabulous. I freaking LOVED it. Pink, yellow, flowers, stripes, pictures of Betsey, clothing everywhere … words can’t even go there. It is pretty much the happiest place on earth. If I worked in the showroom I don’t think it would be possible to have a bad day.

The whole experience gave me the most brilliant idea too, I am decorating my brand new apartment (I move in when I get back to LA) just like the showroom. Seriously, it’s going to be brighter, louder and more fashionable than my current Hollywood apartment — it’s going to be brilliant. I just can’t leave that experience in New York, it’s coming with me to LA.

I really couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. Between the excitement of being at Fashion Week, to the wonderful AMEX booth, the interview with Hollywould, the Betsey Johnson runway show, being reunited with my friends, and being in the showroom where all of the magic happens …. it really was the best day of my life.

Discovered at Fashion Week: Kempt Luxury Handbags

I was introduced to this lovely line of luxury handbags this week while working in New York City for Fashion Week. Kempt debuted part of their collection at the Liz McClean spring ’09 runway show to a full crowd.

Kempt - Brona

What makes Kempt stand out from all of the other handbags in world is their creative use of color and texture. Some of the types of skins they use are anaconda and ostrich — not your typical skin huh?

The Brona bag is my hands down favorite I love the twist on a classic shape, the color (works perfectly for spring and fall — purple is the hottest color right now), and the texture is so unique.

Kepmt bags don’t come cheap though. I mean, they don’t call them luxury handbags for nothing. The purple/ pink ostrich bag pictured will run you a cool $1,673.00 — a small price to pay for luxury darling.

NY Fashion Week Diary Day 5: The Best Day of My Life (part 3)

Once my excitement settled from sitting inside the AMEX sky box I was more than ready to see the runway show. Let’s just say that I almost cried tears of joy. Seeing her show in person was the most incredible experience, like, ever.

The show started with Betsey and her grandchildren dancing down the runway with balloons. From there it was gloriously colored wigs (I have been wanting one for a while and now I am finally going to go for it), dramatic dresses, funky pirates, and my personal favorite … handcuffed brides. Of course it ended in cartwheels, which was 1 million times for satisfying to see in person.

One of the many reasons that I love Betsey Johnson so much is because of her philosophy on fashion, which happens to be the same as mine …

” Wear what you feel good in, no matter if it’s on trend or not.” — Betsey Johnson

Stay tuned for part 4, the fun didn’t end on the runway ….

On with the show!

NY Fashion Week Diary Day 5: The Best Day of My Life (part 2)

As I was saying before, yesterday was the best day of my life. It all started out in the American Express sky box at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. With the help of ThisNext and of course the lovely people at AMEX, I was allowed to watch Betsey Johnson‘s spring 2009 runway show in the best way possible.

The AMEX sky box was amazing!!! The whole room was designed with fashion in mind: beautiful faux snakeskin benches, luxurious fabrics draped across the room, and extravagant floral arrangements. Not only was the room super fashionable it was sustainable too, everything in the room was eco-friendly and will be recycled once fashion week wraps on Friday. How cool is that? The room was set up with the benches on either side, one side viewed the tent (largest runway) and the other faced the promenade (the medium sized runway). The back of the room had a bar with sandwiches, salads, cookies, and drinks. While the front of the room was decked out with neat-o light fictures, couches, and tables with laptops set up on them.

The whole experience was magnificent. The folks at AMEX couldn’t be nicer (I am so proud to be card member). Servers came by to refil drinks, the hostess was always checking on us and letting us know who was sitting front row.

There was even a special guest at the end, shoe designer Holly from Hollywould. Holly did a Q&A session with us and was even kind enough to give us all $100 gift certificates.

I honestly couldn’t believe how wonderful the whole experience was. And to think my day just got better from there!!!! More to come in part 3, stay tuned.

Shopping at Patricia Field

I went into the Patricia Field store today and LOVED it. I almost left the store and realized I didn’t see any shoes, weird. I asked the woman who was working the floor if there were any shoes. She told me downstairs. Wait, what … there is a downstairs?!

The downstairs was amazing. Tons of wigs, which I am totally getting a light pink bob wig. There were shoes and some sexy accessories. I gravitated right towards these black and white shoes. I picked them up and thought they were pretty darn cute but when I turned them around everything changed. I realized that the heels were fashioned to look like brass knuckles!!!

FashionKitty's recommendations at ThisNext

I was over the moon by this time but my shopping companion quickly reminded me that I was on a shopping ban. I begged to be pardoned and made up a “travel clause.” I got a look back that sorta of said “you are insane” but my companion was willing to reason with me. He said that if they were under $100 I could get them. He clearly assumed that they would be over $100 and I have to admit I agreed. I said, “Ummm how about $120. He wasn’t budging. So I said fine let’s ask the clerk how much they are.

Guess how much? $74 baby!!! Score! Mine, mine, mine. And since I had some money left over I got myself a $20 pair of polly pumps. Today was pretty much my day for shoes. So glorious, so glorious.

Oh yeah, and the icing on the fashionable cake was next door there was random doggie in the window. Isn’t she cute … a little Fashion Poodle.

NY Fashion Week Diary Day 5: The Best Day of My Life (part 1)

Thanks to the hard work of ThisNext’s event planning crew (one hard working woman with a broken foot) I had the best day of my life. I have been building up to this event all week but kept quiet about it because I was sooo afraid I would jinx it. Thank goodness I didn’t jinx it because it was amazing.

I sat in the American Express sky box to watch the BETSEY JOHNSON’S FASHION SHOW!!!!!!!!!

The awesome day went beyond the show too! I was reunited with one of my best girlfriends from back in the day (the tiny blond in the pictures). We have known each other since middle school, we were both on the same cheerleading squad, and we are both Betsey girls! Go visit her in her store in Georgetown. The fun didn’t stop there because we even got a tour of Betsey Johnson’s showroom.

I still can’t believe what an amazing day I had. The sky box was amazing and everyone from American Express was beyond nice. Gosh, I don’t even know where to begin! Guess you are going to have to wait for part 2 (of god knows how many parts) for some more juicy details about my day.
