Dear Fashion Kitty, Reunion Outfit

I am in quite a bind because my husbands 10 year reunion is coming up on June 20th in Southern California. We weren’t originally going to go but work cleared up and now we are going. The reunion is at a Marriott Hotel and is a dinner and dance where the dress is semi-formal. I really want to look good but am at a loss at what to wear. What does one wear to a reunion? I do not want to do the standard little black dress.

I have a fabulous Fendi clutch that I am considering using but have no idea what to wear with it. I am 5’8 and slender and I need something that is modest (knee length with sleeves). My budget is a couple hundred. I really like the booties with dress look but am unsure on how to pull that off.

Let’s work with the clutch for sure. Not only is it fierce, its a good jumping off point … In fact the moment I looked at it, I started getting ideas.

I really think you should go with a dress by Black Halo. They are classic and little bit sexy too, but not so sexy that you will look like a tramp at this reunion. A Black Halo dress will be the perfect backdrop for this hotness Fendi bag too.

For the shoes, I would say no to the booties. I mean it could work but I would go with a peep toe pump instead. It will give you the height and make your legs look longer (since you won’t be showing a lot of leg.)

Dear Fashion Kitty, New Body Debut

I’ve been in Paris for 4 months and I have lost weight. I’m going back to my parents and boyfriend in a month and I want to look beautiful and changed at the airport! My style is a bit bohemian and grunge so I don’t want to overdo it with the Paris’ classic style.

Isn’t that one of the best ways to come back from a trip? … A bit thinner! Go you, hope you lost it in a healthy way. Anyways, the key here is so go back super-confident. I would suggest going shopping at your favorite Paris boutique and kinda have one of those fun, try on everything experiences. Those try-on-athons are always more fun when you are having a good body day anyways. I can almost promise you that you will walk out with the best, most unexpected “I’m home and thinner” outfit ever.

I know, that’s some pretty loose advice so I will give you some outfit advice and inspiration:

– Don’t look like you are trying too hard! I mean, you will be coming off of a long flight so you can’t wear a ball gown, ya know?! Wear something comfortable and carefree.

– Wear something that shows off your smallest/ most impressive part. If you lost weight but still need to work on your stomach (for example) maybe I loose fitting babydoll top and shorts would be best. If you really worked those abs, perhaps and tight fitting top and low slung jeans will work better.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Kristen Stewart Style

I’m 15 years old, 5’4, live in upstate New York, and pretty much love Kristen Stewart to death. I saw the letter that someone wrote in about loving Kristen and all but some of the items are just way to expensive for me to afford.

Now its starting to be nice weather up here but I still want to incorporate some of Kristen’s style into my wardrobe minus the skinny jeans all the time even though I have about 20 pairs and the leather jacket which I’ll wait till next season to look into. I refuse to wear combat boots + I literally just ordered orange low top Chuck Taylor converse ten minutes ago.

So I’m one my way I got the converse and a pair of fake but wicked awesome black wayfarers and love wearing skinny jeans with a white wife beater. What else can I wear to get Kristen’s style?

Alright, FashionKitty is about to on a mini-fashion rant right now … What are people seeing in this girl?! I like some of her style elements but as a whole this chick dresses like a dirty little slob. I mean look at the picture below that I found. It’s literally a baggy tee shirt that looks like it was fished out of the sale bin, skinny jeans, and Converse. Boggles my mind. Maybe I am just getting old or something.

Anyways, I am through with my negativity streak and am ready to help.

Now I am very pleased that you upped the style ante and went with orange Converse, good work! Very awesome and a good way to un-slob this look. The Wayfarers were a good choice you too. You basically have 90% of her look already.

For summer I would recommend going for cut off jean shorts instead of skinny jeans and vests instead of the leather jacket. Here are a couple of non-slob, budget-friendly recommendations for you. Hope they are helpful.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Adding Color to My Wardrobe

I would love to have a colorful wardrobe but I realized it’s full of black, white and grays! What would be a good way to start adding more color and could you show some examples that rock? My style is kind of a simple and edgy one and I have a fair skin tone as well.

Here is a tip to start with … stop buying so much black šŸ˜‰ So, I totally get where you are coming from because like 70% of my closet is black but my wardrobe and look as a whole comes off really colorful. How? It’s pretty simple, I go with colorful accessories and layering pieces because its all about building, baby!

Start buying colorful cardigans (cardigans can be edgy, I should know I have like 50 of them), colorful belts, jewelry, tights, and makeup too.

Here is a good example of coloring a basic black outfit, this is an outfit that I wore last week: a black jersey dress, leopard print tights, and a turquoise cropped cardigan. I was one colorful chick but the main garment was black.

Get what I’m saying??? Good. Now go out and start buying some of your favorite colors.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Maxi Dresses for Short Girls

I love maxi dresses and I see them everywhere. I want to try the style, but I have a petite build and I’m 5’2″. Will I look silly in a long dress like that? If not, what shoes would be appropriate for that style of dress?

Maxi dresses don’t tend to look great on super petite girls. I am 5’5″ (I tell people I am 5’6″ but I am really 5’5″) and I barely pulled off the maxi dress I recently bought. It looked good but I had to wear 4″ heels to keep the dress from dragging.

So basically what I saying here is that chances are a maxi dress is going to swallow you whole. BUT if you love the style and want to try it, wear some tall stappy shoes like these:

Dear Fashion Kitty, Hobo Bag Help

I am in desperate need of a bag/purse. I am more of a tomboy, casual style, and I don’t like the purses that have a lot of little thingys and extra accessory things. I like my stuff simple. I absolutely love hobo bags, and need the space haha. Also, I’m kinda leanin towards a boho looking bag.

Contrary to some of the things I just told you, I am IN LOVE with this Juicy bag. And also the white bag from HSM 3 that Gabriella has in her green, purple and blue flower printed dress. Are there any bags, or that matches some of the descriptions I said above, that sound like something I would like?

Well damn, you are quite the fashion contradiction aren’t you! How about I just find you a bunch of cool hobo bags that I like and hope for the best šŸ˜‰

Dear Fashion Kitty, Afraid of Dresses

I am 26 years old and I just becamse a first time mom in March. I’ve been working my butt off and I pretty much lost all the baby weight. I’m 5’6 and weigh 140 pounds. I played soccer for 18 years and from that, I’ve been stuck with these big muscular thighs, which I’ve been so self conscious about for the longest time. My upper body is small and my bottom half ranges between a 9 and 11.

I have two weddings to attend to this year. One in August and one in September, and my question is what do you suggest for a dress to wear? Strapless dresses seem to be so big up top, and when I get a smaller size, then the bottom is tight lol. I’m so lost when it comes to dresses! I’m so picky on the different styles. I really want something that will show my curves and not hide anything. What do you suggest?

Congrats on losing the majority of your baby weight, that’s awesome.

Don’t think you are alone when it comes to having difficulty shopping directly off the rack. People are shaped differently than the mannequins and stick figures that clothes are designed for. Just know that there are workarounds … 1.) Shopping for the correct silhouette is half the battle and 2.) Finding a great tailor is the second half.

The first solution is what I can help you with. For a gal that is bigger on the bottom than she is on top, needs to find dresses with that same quality to them. My recommendation is an awesome 50s style dress, something that is fitted on the top and has a flared skirt on the bottom. This will show off the smallest part of your body and cover (in a fashionable way) the parts you are less confident about.

So honey, don’t fear the dress because the dress is a beautiful thing. Here are my favorites for you:
