Dear Fashion Kitty, Denim Trend Advice

Girl, you must help me! There are so many jean trends out there, I can’t keep up! I’ve narrowed it down a bit, I like the white, skinny, slightly destroyed jeans a lot. I am 5’7”, very thin, and pale, so I don’t want to buy white jeans that will wash, and flatten me out. Can I still pull them off? These are BCBG, I took a picture of them in Macy’s, but can’t find them online. The most I’d realistically spend is about $70 at the most, but if you can find me a handful of different pairs (that will give me some booty) and a couple of them happen to be over that budget, that’s okay too. (Also, check out my ThisNext “Pale In Comparison” list, those were just some ideas I had.) I also love stone washed jeans! I saw a pair that were, gulp, Levis, ones at American Apparel, as well as these ones on a particularly adorable H&M employee. I love her entire outfit (she said her cardigan was American Apparel, Gucci tee was vintage, jeans were Forever 21, and little blue sneakers were H&M), can you find it for me?

Both of these jeans I’m looking for should be super tight (nothing else fits me, ugh!).
First of all, love your list!! I actually featured it in ThisNext’s newsletter this past week. Alright, enough of that … On to your question.

White jeans? Can you wear them. Let’s see, you are all and skinny, um, let me think about it … YES!!! Yes, of course you can wear them. Who cares if you are pale, they are going to look amazing on you.

And acid wash jeans … We LOVE acid wash jeans. I have a pair from high school that I am thinking of turning into skinny jeans so I can wear them now.

Anyways, here are my denim recommendations for you:

Dear Fashion Kitty, How Do I Clean a Vintage Gucci Bag?

I just bought a great little Gucci bag, for $44.50, and IT’S REAL. It’s vintage, I got it at a secondhand shop. Aren’t you proud of me for being so thrifty, Kitty?! I’m siked. I know you’d appreciate that. 🙂

Unfortunately, it’s original white fabric (it’s canvas I guess) turned pretty yellow. How can I clean this bag without damaging it? The inside is white leather, but that too is a bit peely.

I am SOOO proud of you! Finally, someone out there is listening. Deals are out there if you go hunting for them.

Since you got such a great deal, don’t f’ it up. I would take it somewhere to get it professionally cleaned. I mean, I could rattle off some cleaning tips that I have heard through the grapevine but since I haven’t tested those methods … I just don’t feel comfortable passing them on. Just go pay to get it cleaned, you will thank yourself later.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Birthday Outfit Help!

My 20th birthday is 2 weeks away and I’m having a limo party and I am going out to the city with a group of friends. I want to stand out and be noticed with the outfit I am wearing. I am petite and have a small body type. Can you give me a few ideas?

Umm … Dress like a princess, duh! Seriously, nothing says “its my freaking birthday” like an adorably obnoxious dress, a tiara, a cutie purse, and some fancy-awesome shoes.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Accessorize This Dress

I’m wearing this dress to a wedding but I don’t know if I should get a nice necklace or big earrings or just wear a flower on my hair and keep the jewelry simple. I’m wearing navy blue peep toe shoes and a dark pink clutch. Oh and I’m removing the neck tie.

Thank goodness you are removing that tie thing, it looks so silly and pointless there. Anyways … Loving your choices as far as accessories go! Navy shoes and a pink clutch is like perfection. Kudos to you.

I say to top it all off go with a flower in your hair and a great big old cocktail ring. You will look so stunning. Have fun at the wedding.

Dear Fashion Kitty, Boho Chic on a Budget

I’m a 15 year old girl who lives in Tampa, FL. I love to dress like a hippie, and my fashion icons are Kate Moss, Lauren Conrad, and Blake Lively. I know I’m a bit too young to wear some of their clothes. In Tampa, it gets pretty hot, so leather boots and jackets are out of the question. Although I love their style, I know most of their clothes are designer, aka clothes I can’t afford. I need help trying to find stores that have similar, less expensive clothes, and looking more ‘boho chic’. I love skinny jeans, and leather bags, but I need help tying it all together.

You can absolutely get their look for less, in fact you can get it pretty much anywhere. I have said this so many times but I will say it again. Go to Target, go to TJ Maxx, go to Marshalls, go to Kohls, go to Nordstrom’s BP department, go thrift shopping, go to Urban Oufitters … because you will find things that work. In fact, today I was at Marshalls and I found a $545 Betsey Johnson dress for $32!! Insane, right?!

Anyways, here are the garments you should stock up on for summer to be all boho chic

– Maxi dresses ($15-$20 at the stores mentioned above)
– Simple tanks (white Hanes in the men’s underwear section)
– Skinny jeans
– Flat sandals
– Aviator sunglasses
– Fringed hobo bag
– An awesome floppy hat
– Natural jewelry (wood, beads)
– Sweetly awesome vest

Here is a look for less to get you started. Good luck and have fun shopping.

DIY: Tricked Out & Rhinestoned Converse

After seeing an awesome pair of Converse with neon yellow laces on the runway of Meghan Fabulous and then a studded pair on Free People’s website — I was inspired. Inspired to buy some supplies and create my own awesome hybrid pair.

With a few supplies from the craft supplies, some fashionable inspiration, and a drop of FashionKitty power I created the most awesome pair of Converse ever.

from Meghan Fabulous

from Free People

Here is what you need:

– 1 pair of high top Converse ($45)

– a few bags of rhinestones ($3.99 each)

– a hot glue gun or a bedazzler ($6, I already had one at home)

– brightly colored shoe laces or ribbons ($2)

– gold acrylic craft paint ($1)

DYI Converse: Fashionable and FashionKitty Worthy

Step 1- Change out the laces. Since the fools at Target forgot to put my laces in the bag after I paid for them … I used the laces that came with the shoes and combined them with some bright yellow ribbon. Looked hot.

Step 2- Age the shoes with gold paint. I took a dry brush with a little gold metallic paint and painted the back seam and the perimeter of the shoe.

Step 3- Get gluing 0r bedazzling. In whatever pattern you like, add rhinestones. I used round and star rhinestones of all different colors and sizes. I only blinged out the outside of the shoes.

Step 4- Let them dry and put them on!

Dear Fashion Kitty, What To Wear for an Internship

I’m a t-shirt and jeans-loving college student with internships in journalism/PR and I can’t seem to figure out this whole professional-but-not-quite-corporate style, though! I hate looking overdone, but in a perfect world, I’d like some kind of trendy-yet-professional look, like Kimora Lee Simmons meets Lauren Conrad, or “Rihanna goes to the office”-type look. Any ideas? Thank you so much!

The “Rihanna goes to the office” idea you mentioned totally got me inspired!!! I think that look will be perfect for you. In PR you need to look good, its just the truth. The two looks I put together for you will have you looking good, fashion forward, while still being comfortable.

This first look is pretty basic. Its black skinnies, a simple shell, and a jacket. How easy is that? The black and white contrast will have you looking totally fresh. Add a statement necklace and some impressive shoes and you will be good to go.

For the second look, I took a trendier piece and paired it up with a colorful blazer. The jumpsuit is so comfortable but when paired with a crisp blazer, it takes on an office appropriate look. And of course, when you are showing off your shoes … make them show off worthy.

Enjoy your internship!
