“The Devil Wears Prada” Hits the Big Screen

I may have been a little slow to the punch on reading this book, but I just finished it last weekend and loved it. Perhaps I loved it because I have the not so glamorous day job of being an assistant myself. Or maybe it is just due to my undying love of fashion- I really related to this book. So I am very excited that there will be a movie based on it this summer!

Here is a little blurb from EOnline.com (who showed a short clip of the movie on Thursday)- Meryl also stars as Miranda “the boss from hell” Priestly in ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ Look for an over-the-top Meryl to eat up the scenery as an out-of-control fashion magazine maven with a new assistant to punish in co-star ANNE HATHAWAY.

With Patricia Field as a stylist, even if the movie stinks at least we can go home seeing some nice clothes.

Full of Daily Candy

After a full serving of The OC, I treated myself to some Daily Candy for desert. It wasn’t fattening at all, and quite a page- turner by the way. Yep, I was reading not binging on chocolate.

It’s like an ABC book for cool people (oh and for people who aren’t like 2 years old) Here a few zingers that I really enjoyed….

V- Vice

What to say when someone says you’re vain…

“Wow, sue me for washing my hair, putting on a face, and pressing my clothes, you nasty skank. Now shove off, you’re blocking my sun!”

W- Work

Enemies

She says- ” I heard you got fired from your last job. How awful for you”

You Say- “And I heard how you always go digging for dirt on your co-workers. How desperate of you.”

I enjoyed the book; cute, short, amusing- all the stuff I like!

Fashionista needs to look superhot!

Hey Fashion Kitty

Here’s the deal…The ultimate like all time love of my life’s birthday is Friday. He invited me to his party. Great! Except, now I’m in a complete state of panic! WHAT DO I WEAR!!!! I haven’t seen him for almost 3 years!!!! I absolutely HAVE to look hot! Hotter than hot! He has to see me and be like DAMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNN!!! but in a good way! HELP! I would love to find the ultimate black top with just the right touches, i.e., dolman sleeves, a VERY deep plunging v neck ( to show off the goodies) but those are the basics! I’m thinking Ella Moss? Anyways Fashion Kitty! Help me out! I’m going shopping immediately ( online ) to get ideas!

Thanks for the help!

Fashionista in dire need to look superhot!!!

Hi Superhottie!

Man do I wish I could start a clothing rental service. I have the best Ella Moss plunging (very low) Dolman sleeve, black top- with a keyhole in the back! Its hot…I put a spiffy butterfly belt around my waist an woo hoo!

Here is my suggestion…You need to go out and shop. Shopping online gives you great ideas sure, but in a pinch its risky business. Things can be out of stock, not in your size, fedex can screw up. Its wonderful that you already know what you want. Here are a few ideas from me….

Top by LaRok $178

T-Bags $128

Black is always safe for being hot, and something easy to accessorize. But keep your options open- you do want to stand out in front the Dream Dude! Good luck and have fun at the party.

JC Penney/ Sephora

I feel like I am answering some impossible SAT question: JC Penney is to _____, as Sephors is to_____. Now, I don’t actually remember if that is how SAT questions are set up. I took that awful test so long ago- and apparently did well enough to go on and graduate from college.

Point is…They don’t relate:

JC Penney is to CHEAP BASTARD, as Sephora is to EXPENSIVE/ CLASSY.

Point of this blog entry is, JC Penney is trying to appeal to a more youthful non-Penney crowd by using Sephora to help them, but having Sephora’s actually inside the department store. Most of you have heard the story

but here it is if you haven’t

What do you all think? I mean really. I know that Target is like a cool place to shop- just pronounce it Tarje’ and call it a day! But Jay Ce’ Penne’ ? I don’t think I am ready for something like this.

Great Site Alert!

Just got an email about a new online boutique called Bijou Boutique. Its really cute, and after only a few minutes of clicking, I see things I want. Added bonus…You can customize the jewelry to suit your fashionable needs. Who doesn’t like that?

Here is what I want…

1.) Adorable lariat. Nothing better than a one of a kind looking necklace! That is full of color to spruce up any bland outfit. I absolutely love it when I put on a great pair of jeans, a clean white top, with some WOW jewelry, and spectacular shoes. This things is a steal at $25

2.) Big Rock- who needs that flashy diamond ring, when you can still flaunt an enormous rock and get just as many compliments (without that marriage thing)! $32

3.) Heart Pendant- I love black jewelry, and this pendant is no exception. I love it, and I can add it to whatever length chain I choose. A stunning piece with a doable price tag of $50.

Remember the biggest bonus to all of this is CUSTOMIZATION. So you can create great accessories without all of that hard work!

Ban & Burn: Shoes

The weather is heating up; it is safe to switch out the winter clothes for something a bit skimpier. This is the perfect time for a good old closet burning session.
Now, when I use the words burn/burning- please don’t bring out the gasoline and matches. This only means you need to (safely) remove your old and severely ugly clothes/ accessories by either donating or just pitch them.
Today’s session is devoted to shoes. These shoes need to burned and banished from your closet never to be worn again.

1.) Flip Flops- I am so sick of everyone wearing flip flops! I see them in the office, at the mall, out to dinner. Flip Flops are for the pool, and the inside of your house. Unless you have a heeled pair that is extremely fabulous. Just say no to Flip Flops

2.) Mandals- Men should not wear sandals. The end. NEXT!!!!!! But really, unless you want to look like a young boy from the early 1900’s let’s go ahead and leave these alone.

3.) Birkenstocks- No, no, and no. These shoes are for dirty hippies. Keyword: Dirty!

4.) Uggs, Keds, and those hideous elastic shoes from Steve Madden (see picture) – Don’t wear any of these shoes, unless you enjoy being laughed at (because people are laughing)

Memory Lane- Jelly Shoes

I have mentioned these shoes I couple of time, Marc by Marc Jacobs jellies.

I like them because they remind me of my childhood…Thinking I was so grown up wearing a pair of “heels”, getting pebbles from the playground lodged in the bottom of the shoes, and the fact that my feel will never be the same shape because of deformation due to the pointy jelly toe. If your memories aren’t worth $95, try this cheaper version from Delias. They are selling out mighty fast…so better grab them now.

Bag Borrow or Steal

Borrow Don't Buy! 120x90
I am not so much a bag person. I would categorize myself as a shoe person or jeans person (or both teehee). Every so often I find myself wanting an “it” bag, but I can’t seem to find one that I will love forever or want to pay 2 months rent for. I have heard the buzz about Bag Borrow or Steal for while, but now it is seeping into my head that I need this service.

Its like Netflix, excepts it designer handbags, which to me sounds a lot better than a stinking movie.

Here would be my choices (Marc Jacobs, Moschino, and Fendi).

Best Shoe Ever

I just had a moment. A moment where my whole world stopped and materialism took over my mind (more space than it typically takes in my mind) I found the best pair of shoes that I must have. I haven’t even had a moment to rationalize the purchase that I will be making. Have not yet taken in consideration the ridiculous price tag. I have yet to develop at least 6 outfits to accompany these shoes. But know this….I have to have these shoes.
