Dear Fashion Kitty, Blue strapless dress

I have just ordered this blue strapless dress online and have no idea what to wear it with! Strapless dresses are gutsy for me because I hate how skinny my arms look in them, but I am excited to wear the dress just the same. What accessories would you recommend? Should I wear a cropped printed cardigan as well? How about shoes?

Super-cute dress! The first thing that comes to mind is pairing navy and black, it’s my new favorite color combination. I would wear this with a black cropped cardigan, a really dramatic headband, a simple necklace, and fun shoes from Marc Jacobs.

My awesome hat from San Diego Hat Co.

There is nothing more fun/obnoxious than a really big, floppy hat. I have been on a mission for the perfect hat for a while and finally I came across it few weeks ago while shopping in Larchmont … a black extra large brimmed hat by the San Diego Hat Co. It was a bargain a around $40, which made it that much more perfect.

San Diego Hat Co - Extra Large Brimmed Hat

For the past 2 weeks my perfect hat has been sitting in my room just waiting for the perfect moment to wear it.

I finally found the moment this weekend.

I first wore it out to lunch in West Hollywood with my sweetly-awesome silk vintage jumper (once my camera is fixed I will post a picture) and again to the beach today. I get alternate looks when I wear it; either you are totally cute or you are totally crazy. I am fine with both looks because the hat is just darn cool.

Who knew? The Peg Egg

Ped Egg Pro Foot File

As much as I have made fun of the awful, awful commercial for this crazy contraption. I have to admit, it works! I have been hearing a bit of buzz about how wonderful this $10 callus scraping “egg” works. So today on a trip to CVS I picked one up. It was cheap (less than $10), so I figured I had nothing to lose.

I opened the package and swore the thing was going to be battery operated. It’s not, it just requires some good old fashioned elbow grease. You take the little egg and file away all the disgusting crap off your feet. The creepy little egg catches all of the skin.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s freaking nasty! It’s like seeing your blackheads in those Biore pore strips, except multiplied times 1000. Once you get past the grossness it’s the best pedicure on the planet. My feet are smooth and it didn’t hurt a bit. I highly recommend this product. Just head over to your local drugstore to pick one up.

Christian Louboutin Spiked Heels – Gold

Christian Louboutin Spiked Heels - Gold

I saw these shoes while paging through Bazaar’s special fall fashion runway issue. These were worn by the models in Rodarte’s fall fashion show in New York. They come in black, white, red, and gold (pictured).

I want these shoes so freaking bad!

I was willing to spend $1k on them only to find they are priced “upon request”. You know what that means. It means these shoes are like $5k or something stupid like that.

Life is so unfair.

Anyways, stare at them in all of their spiked glory.

Shoe porn at it’s finest.

Celebrating 30 yrs of Betsey Johnson with a new outfit

Betsey Johnson is celebrating 30 years in fashion this week. I celebrated the occasion the only way I know how, with a new dress.

I practically ran to Betsey Johnson after work on Wednesday when I saw her tattoo print skirt and top online. I even called and told them to hold the whole collection (top, skirt, tube dress, baby doll dress) in my size. Unfortunately they didn’t have the top in a small. The sales girl tried to stuff my ass into an x-small. I looked a damn fool in but the next available size (the medium) was too big 🙁 But lucky for me, the tube dress was in my size and was totally hot. So I forked over $275 wore it out to dinner at Social and then to Les Deux.

For those of you who live in LA. The Betsey Johnson on Melrose is having a party Augst 7th from 4-7pm. There is a free gift for everyone who spends over $400. I will be there and will be spending $400 🙂 There were two adorable dresses there that I just can’t stop thinking about.

Blu in the face: Fashion Kitty in BLU Magazine

ThisNext’s expert shoe Maven wrote a really great article for BLU Magazine and quoted me in it.

The article is all about the break-ups blues and I am dishing out some advice on how to cope. I know, me giving relationship advice. Who knew?! Pretty funny, the concept of me giving advice on such a topic. Did I ever tell you how allergic I am to those things (relationships)?

Anyways, I am rambling again. Great article Felicia and congrats for making it in the mag.

No habla espanol: Fashion Kitty on Univision

You would think that after 5 years of Spanish classes and a grandmother from Cuba who speaks Spanish as her first language, I would know how to speak, read, or listen and understand Spanish. But I don’t.

Anyways, the kind folks over at Univision interviewed me (in Engligh) to find out what I thought the key fashion trends were for back-to-school. I dished and they wrote something up (in Spanish). Here it is for those of you who can read it and if you care to translate for me, email the translation to [email protected]

Fashion Q&A with Mandy Moore …

Q: Why do you love accessories?
A:
I love accessories because they allow me to express my individual style at any given moment. I play with them to add an edgy touch or a flirty moment to my ensemble.

Q: What is your signature accessories look?
A:
I’m almost always in a scarf, I love a hoop earring and chunky vintage rings I find on trips around the world.

Q: Who are some of you favorite accessories brands?
A:
I can’t live without Missoni scarves for all seasons. I’m a Louboutin girl. Either super high or flat. I don’t really wear anything in between. I love Anita Ko jewelry. Its beautifully designed and the stone combinations are exquisite.
