Net-a-Porter Notes

My mailbox is constantly busting open! All my subscriptions (8 magazines), WWD newspaper, bills (bleck!), junk mail, books from Amazon.com, and the occasional letter from Grandma. It’s getting to the point where I have to schedule time to read it all. Well mailbox- make some room! You are about to have another pal to add to the mix. Our friends at Net-a-Porter.com have created a book that acts as a magazine, diary, and notebook all in one. This mini-fashion magazine is packed full of key trends, Editors’ picks, top fashion tips and style news. The diary is a six month guide to the hottest events of the season, plus month-by-view calendar pages for your usewww.net-a-porter.com

Summer Uniform

Shorts are my uniform for the summer!Last summer was throw and go jersey dresses, summer before that was flowing skirts and tight tees. I am all about shorts this summer; which is odd considering for so many years of my youth my mom begged me to wear shorts (I refused). I have been causally picking up cute shorts while shopping, but I hit jackpot at Barney’s with Johnson shorts.

Koo Koo over Kokovk

I am a firm believer in accessories (my value system is shot). So when I received an email from the www.Kokovk.com , a new online boutique that has the newest up-and-coming looks from innovative young designers, I jumped at the chance to feature them on AFK. I love supporting new designers, as I know the pain and hard work that goes into these sort of things.

Prices of these original accessories range from $35- $400. Even if you are selling sweaters at the GAP you can afford these beautiful pieces . Personally I am huge fan of this mushroom necklace by Joohe Park, a steal at $80. Check out all of the designers for yourself at www.Kokovk.com

Creepy Alert!

When I go through my emails I seriously never know what I might open. In a recent request from my friends at Mechie Techie- I was asked to write a blog entry on Photogenic Masks. Read it for yourself. Like I said, its too creepy not to share.

Excuse me, I need to put on my face…I will only be a
second!”

Guys how many times have you heard that from your
lady friends. What if they actually meant it? Natori Satio, a Japanese artist
has created Photogenic Masks. These are very realistic looking masks of women’s
faces (and breasts if you need a set of those too). While these works of arts
are extremely realistic- they are also pretty darn creepy.

Guys let your gals take that extra half hour in the bathroom
to get ready. Because if they took the second you dream of they may come out
looking like this.

Oh and the sites catch phrase is “PhotogenicMasks have
been created for anyone who desires to become a girl” See it for yourself at http://photogenicdoll.cutegirl.jp/mask/

Wow

Typically when I hear the word “wow” I think of something positive; like “Wow, that’s cool” or “Wow, that’s fantastic news” how about “Wow! You bought a car!.” Pretty sure I don’t need to go on for you all to get this one.

However, today when I say “wow” it is because I can’t even draw together words to express how terrible Paris Hilton’s new music video is. “Wow- that’s NOT hot!” I refuse to link the video to this page, it may bring Fashion Kitty some bad karma or something.

Shall we break down the video (shouldn’t take long I promise)

1.)Visually– This is a softer version of the “special” movie
she put out. Just her looking at the camera constantly, groping a half naked
man, and being half naked herself

2.)Vocally- Apparently Paris Hilton thought since
Gwen Stefani was out on maternity leave, she could rip off her sound. Hilton’s
voice is clearly doctored up with a slew of sound machines; and she still
manages to sound bad. Bleck!

If you have seen this mockery, drop me a comment to express your hate.

The Gift of Beauty

I am really eyebrow obsessed, one brow out of place and I freak! That’s why I love this new promotion from e.l.f. Free brow grooming kit with $25 purchase.

weekly promo

How can you manage to spend $25 on cosmetics when they are $1 a pop? Let me tell you… Its called giving! People!!! What is cuter than sticking a few e.l.f. cosmetics into a little flower pot and giving them out to the under appreciated in the office? Or how about grandma, wouldn’t she think you were the cutest?
They are also great things to stash in case of a friends forgotten birthday comes up and you are without gifts!

Its in the Bag!

Baby got her first designer bag this weekend!!

I went out on a mission to find the Marc by Marc Jacobs leather tote. When I showed up at Neimans ready to buy- they said they had it on the web but not in the store (grrrr) BUT they swore they saw it at Barney’s CO OP.

So I made a mad dash to Barney’s. To my horror- the bag was enormous. If you know me, I love a big ass bag- but this one was too big ass. I felt defeated. Until I saw Marc by Marc Jacobs eyelet hold all, just the right size, beautiful blackish/ blue leather. Perfection. (Try to ignore the ghetto fab pic I took with my sidekick, left the digital camera at home)

Vintage AFK Question

I have a closet and a half filled with clothes. Some of which I have not used for years, with the hope that I will fit into them again one day. What rule do you go by in terms of deciding when to throw something away? I imagine that you have tons of clothes. Some of which are “seasonal” or fads. Do you tend to throw the “fad-ish” items away first? Or do you keep it around in hopes that it will be fashionable again? It is just a bit difficult for me to throw something away. I guess because I attach certain memories or experiences to the piece of clothing. Anyways, is there a rule that you go by in determining what makes the cut?

It just so happens that I do have some rules (I need to follow them more closely, my closet is getting over crowded)

1.) Doesn’t fit….toss it!

  • If something is too big chances are you don’t really want to
fit in it anymore. So toss it! If something is too small, it really needs to go
too. It’s just going to taunt you. However! I do recommend keeping one piece
that is small, makes you feel good after you have worked really hard to fit in
    it and you finally do.

2.) Designer…keep it!

  • If you have a designer piece you need to keep it. For one it is well made and will last. And second, it’s like a collector piece and if you aren’t a fashion freak like who thinks of
it like that…Think of it like this, if you have the misfortune of having
children you can always give it to them later and make them the coolest kid in
    the class.

3.) “Fads”…toss (usually)

  • When I buy fad pieces they are cheap and inexpensive anyway, so tossing isn’t so bad. Those that are workable into outfits that aren’t fad-ish. Keep em.

4.) Sentimental Pieces….

  • Give them away. Not to just anyone, give them to a friend or a relative. This
way if you want to travel down memory lane, you can borrow it.

Who doesn't love a sale?

Nothing is more relaxing than shopping online. Where else can you sit around in your pajamas and shop for designer duds? I have been itching for a designer bag for quite some time (ummm…my whole life!) Well Neimans is having a sale and I am seeing a thing or two that I want. Drum roll please!

Marc by Marc Jacobs- $321

Marc Jacobs $700 something (compared to $1000 something)
