Yay! New Glasses

My new Chanel glasses!!

I’ve been half-blind since I was teenager. I got my first pair of glasses when I was in the 7th grade. Freaking horrific. I remember first being exposed to my blindness when my dad asked me to read the license plate on the car in front of us. I couldn’t read it. Ouch! That meant a trip to the eye doctor. That shit ruined me. What an embarrassing discovery to find out that I couldn’t see shit. To make matters worse, contacts were out of the question. It was glasses for this girl.

I think it was during my senior year of high school that I was finally allowed to get contacts … or maybe it was my freshman year of college. Whenever it was, I was in with the contacts and wasn’t planning on ever looking back. I always owned a pair of glasses but no real human ever got to see them. I only wore them on before bed. My nerdiness was my own dirty secret.

Well now at almost 30 years old, I have decided that I could face my fears and wear glasses in public. First order of business was a new pair of glasses. My nighttime nerd glasses broke last night so today was the perfect day to face my fears.

I went to an eyeglasses boutique on Melrose and tried on pair after pair. I finally decided on a great pair of Chanel glasses. They are the perfect combination of nerdy chic. I love them. I think I will be spending a lot more time in my glasses.

New York, New York … Get Ready for SOS (again)

school of style

Wow … I feel like I just got back from New York, but guess what? It’s time to go back again. Luke and I are heading to New York for our second School Of Style Class 1 in NYC. There are still a few spots open if you want to come to the class.

I am so excited for some east coast fall weather and some major shopping!! Century 21 better be prepared because we are coming at that store like a shopping tornado. I will of course be blogging about all of my shopping finds, so stay tuned!!!

Portfolio: Babakul Fall 2010 Look Book

Remember way back when in January, when I posted about my first key stylist gig? Well I finally got a look at the final pictures. Since that first job I’ve done quite a few key stylists gigs and have got more pictures back, but there is just something about that first time … Not to get all sentimental on your asses but I just feel so grateful. It was a little less than a year ago that I decided to leave my full-time (and well paying) job to pursue my dream of becoming a stylist. So that is why these little pictures are so important to me. Sure, in a year or in a few months I’ll look back at these photos and think their whack but for now … I’m pretty happy with my work.

The job was for this brands Fall 201o look book. So basically I had to take the clothes from their collection and style them in a way that fit the three themes that they determined. I shopped for cool shoes/accessories and worked closely with the designers to help make their hard work look the best that it could.

Anyways … here are a few of the images. There are a ton more but I don’t want to bore you with every single image 🙂

Shopping: Deals, Deals, Deals

Ugh, I can’t resist a deal. Here are a few of my recent designer deals. Definitely going on a shopping fast for a while. Well … I can’t make any promises in NYC.

YOOX: I have always seen YOOX.com but honestly I never really gave the site a chance. Silly me. This site is riddled with deals. I found a ton of designer shoes for cheap, cheap, cheap. I’m talking Givenchys for $79. Insane. After putting a lot of shoes in my cart, then taking them out, and then putting them in again … I landed on one pair of Balenciagas that should be here any day now.

They originally retailed for about $500. They were marked down to $160 when I made the decision to pull the trigger. Then something wonderful happened … They disappeared from my shopping cart. I was pissed, I assumed they sold out. I did a quick search to find them and their new price. They were marked down again!! Making the final price $119. Add free shipping to the mix and I am one happy camper. I am going to wear them this fall with black opaque tights and a little mini dress.

Ssense: This is another recently discovered site that is totally awesome. They carry all of my favorite brands and when I shopped the site they had a great sale selection. You know I love a deal.

I ended up purchases this great Margiela bodysuit for under $100. I don’t know what it is but I just love that print. I actually bought it thinking it was a tee shirt but as it turns out, its a bodysuit. I will most likely wear this as a shirt but I can see it as a bodysuit with black tights and thigh boots … Maybe that’s better suited for a photoshoot.

Loehmanns: My favorite store ever in life. When I was shopping there last week I saw this cute Chloe skirt on the clearance rack for like $60. I tried it on and didn’t end up buying it. Although I did buy a hot little Margiela skirt for $60 (yellow, plaid, mini … I can’t find a picture).

Of course a week later I realize that it will look totally awesome with a thin black tank. So I hustle back to the store assuming someone else would have probably snatched it up. I mean, its a Chloe skirt for $60. I think it retailed at $600. Well, lucky me because it was still there. So I got it. I think it may need a trip to the tailor to make it a bit shorter.

Portfolio: Shoot with Ty Keennon

A few months back I was approach by School Of Style graduate Ty Keennon to style a shoot for her new website. After taking our styling course, Ty decided that styling wasn’t for her but that fashion photography was. So I gladly accepted the opportunity and styled a few looks for her (6 to be exact). The whole experience was really fun. I learned how to work on a limited budget and I learned how to style outside of my comfort zone. Here are a few of the images that Ty chose as her favorites.

Hot For: Crazy Footwear

Shoes might just be the best thing ever. A good pair of shoes will really set off an outfit. I recently got rid of 75% of my shoes and have been in a starting over period. I am only buying good shoes that will last me a lifetime. So I’ve been purchasing well-made designer shoes that are semi-classic. With that being said, I do get shoe lust ever now and again. I have recently been lusting over some uber-crazy shoes at Opening Ceremony. They are so crazy-awesome that I just had to share them with you. I am really considering forking over $555 for those fur wedges. Lets pray that they go on sale soon 🙂

Fall Accessories by Alexander Wang

I love presents, I really do! Yesterday I was surprised with some fall accessories by one of my favorite designers, Alexander Wang. I got a hat and scarf, which is perfect because I will need those cold-weather accessories for all of my travels to NYC.

Here they are in all of their glory …

default-1I love how they aren’t black too. Black would have been my obvious choice if I were the one picking. So I’m glad someone else was the picker/ fabulous gift-giver. I can’t wait to pair these accessories with my jean jacket. I know that’s gonna look killer.

Loving: Elizabeth and James

Today I am wearing a great blouse from Elizabeth and James, its actually my first Elizabeth and James purchase. Well …I did purchase a pair of Elizabeth and James shoes at the same time. So I guess it’s kinda my second Elizabeth and James purchase. Point is, I love Elizabeth and James. I’ve always admired the label but never really got that into it. The clothes are really nicely made and look great too. They also have some killer shoes (can’t wait to wear mine).

Here are a few looks from their latest lookbook. The color palette fits my closet perfectly … black, gray, a bit of olive green, and maybe a few tans and browns sprinkled in. So you know what that means … Elizabeth and James will be added into my shopping rotation.

Portfolio: Wale at Coachella

It just occurred to me that I haven’t been posting my styling work at all, I just been blogging about my experiences on set. So I suppose that now’s as good a time than any to start.

Here are two images of Wale that were shot by photographer Dove Shore at Coachella 2010. Wale was actually quite easy to style as he already had awesome style walking in. I hooked him up with this cool quilted jacket by Rock and Republic and some sweet shades to top off the look.
