Memorial Day has come and gone, which means it’s officially time to break out the warm weather wardrobe. I’ve recently migrated my wardrobe into a new and improved closet (more on that later) and now realize how badly I need to edit things down (AGAIN) to accommodate the new season.
Working on your closet can be frustrating but once you start, it actually feels to good. Getting rid of things, reinventing your wardrobe, and just tidying a bit up can be quite refreshing. So follow my simple tips and add a “closet refresh” to your weekend to-do list.
Cleaning out your closet is mentally and physically exhausting so make sure you have the stamina to take on this project. Get a good nights sleep the day before and if that isn’t in the cards, load up on the caffeine. Before I clean out my clients closet, I always make a Starbucks run. At home, my fridge is always stocked with green tea and most recently Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee.
Getting rid of items in your closet is a lot easier with the help of an honest friend. Just make sure you are wearing a thick skin because she may just tell you how hideous that high/low skirt really is.
Put away your fall/winter pieces to free up space for your spring/summer gear. Out of sight, out of mind. Make sure you keep out of a few pieces in case there are chilly nights or if you are traveling somewhere cooler. I always keep out a few leather jackets, 2 or 3 cozy sweaters, and a few pair of leather pants.
If you don’t have a team of fashion hungry friends ready to take your cast offs, find a great charity to donate your gently worn pieces. Dress for Success is my personal favorite.

Making some money off of your closet makes the cleaning process a lot easier. I just sold a few pieces on eBay and made over $700. Here are some tips for making money off of your closet. Cha-Ching!
