Boy do I love a good hat. I’d say they rank second after shoes, on my short list of my favorite accessories. The problem I find when shopping for hats (especially online) is knowing my hat size. Do I have a big head, a tiny peanut head, or a “normal” sized head? So many questions, so few answers.
Until now.
Grab a tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler because it’s time to measure your dome.
Start by wrapping the tape measure around your head, about 1/8″ above your year and across the middle of your forehead. If that is too confusing just put it where you want your hat to sit on your head. Don’t hold the tape too tight, unless you want the hat to limit your brain function.
Tip: If you are between sizes, always go a size up!
So which size is which? Here is a little breakdown …
Small- 21 1/8″ – 21 1/2″
Medium- 21 7/8″ – 22 1/4″
Large- 22 5/8″ – 23″
XL- 23 1/2″ -23 7/8″
XXL- 24″- 24 5/8″
Tip: If you currently own a hat that is a little too snug, you can always take it to a milliner and have it stretched.
And in case you were wondering … My favorite hats brands are Maison Michel, Gladys Tamez, and Rag & Bone.
Happy hat shopping!
