My Natural Hair Journey: Sweet, Sweet Freedom

It’s been a while since I’ve had a hair check-in with all you, mainly because I haven’t had anything to bitch about. Seriously. My hair has finally stopped being the enemy!

I finally put away the flat iron and have been rocking my curls for a little over two-months now. After a traumatic experience with the foam rollers (curls were so damn tight they were practically glued to my head) I have turned to 2-strand twists and wash-n-go style curls.  So much easier than dealing with relaxers and flat irons.

Since rocking the curls on the reg I have been receiving a ton of compliments. Not that was other people think is important but it has been interesting to see how many people have taken to the new do. Plus when you hear things like, “this is the best your hair has ever looked” and “your new hair makes you look more sophisticated” you can’t help but wonder, why didn’t I go natural sooner?

The more important question is how do I feel. In a word – free.  I can’t think of any other way to describe it than that. I have finally stopped fighting with my hair by making it do things it wasn’t built to do.  For some reason I could give two shits about a bad hair day. I also feel more like myself than I ever had before.

I’m always trying out new products (I hear that’s pretty common) but right now I can’t live without Mixed Chicks leave-in- conditioner. Best product ever.

That’s where I am right now. My natural hair ladies, if you have a favorite product you think I should try please let me know. Thanks!

  1. Yeah, I’m guilty of being a product junkie also. Kinky curly has a great leave in conditioner as well. I love KeraCare products. KeraCare also has an edge stick that works really well. Shea Moisture has good products. Miss Jessie has good products, and As I Am is a great line. All of these products are available at Target. I just bought some new products by Motions, but I haven’t tried them out yet.
