Style Yourself: Looks Inspired by American Hustle

I have been on a major movie binge lately. Seriously, I’ve spent more money at the Arc Light than I’d care to admit. Out of the many movies I saw, American Hustle was hands-down my favorite. To be honest I didn’t even know what it was about (I rarely watch trailers before seeing a film) but I knew I wanted to see it for the wardrobe.Christian Bale;Amy Adams;Bradley CooperWell the wardrobe did not disappoint and I’m not even a huge fan of 70s fashion! Amy Adams, for me, was the style star of the movie. My favorite look was her bad-girl leather look. It effortlessly blended bad with sexy and here is how you can get the look.

What You’ll Need:

  • Leather pants
  • Black leather blazer or top
  • Structured bag
  • Massive shades
  • Hoop earrings

Start at the bottom

It is important to keep this look modern, so opt for a pair of skinny leather pants or leather leggings.  As far as footwear goes, I would rock a pair of thigh high boots for the ultimate bad-girl look.

Add a dash of class to the top

Let’s be realistic for a minute, the bra-less/ deep V look that we saw in the movie isn’t going to slide in real life. BUT the peek-a-boo bra look is totally modern and very “in” today. So why not add a sexy lace bra.

It’s all in the accessories

You can really bring on the essence of the 70s with the accessories – the sunglasses being the most important. American Apparel’s ‘Farrah’ sunglasses are super 70’s and they won’t break the bank.

For the bag I am a big fan of this one by 3.1 Phillip Lim. The bag is definitely modern but has a hint of that American Hustle 70’s vibe.

Finally, nothing says retro-chic like a pair of gold hoop earrings . This seemingly minor detail really pulls the whole look together.

If you haven’t seen American Hustle yet you are truly missing out. Check out the trailer below and get your ticket before Award Season kicks off.
