Shine was big during the fall season and the trend will continue into the spring. The way I am interpreting the trend this time around is to turn down the shine a notch (just a notch). Fall was all about over the top shine with sequins and blinding metallics that almost required sunglasses, which is totally awesome for the chillier months. However this spring, subtle shine is the way to go.
So how does shine go subtle you may ask? Simple. You can do it by incorporating metallics with softer materials like tulles and satins, and by using metals in your look.
My shopping inspiration
I created a look at Kohl’s that is subtly shiny, comfortable, and cool for spring.
I started by styling the bottom half with a pair of floral silk pants from LC Lauren Conrad and pair of killer shoes by Rock & Republic. The material of the pants definitely lends itself to the shine trend without being overly shiny, which is also perfect for a daytime look. Oh and can we please talk about the shoes – my favorite part of the outfit. Can you believe I got these babies for around $50? They look like totally legit designer shoes. I used these shoes as little shine vehicles. The patent leather is shine city as are the metal studs that adorn the front of the shoes.
Then I found the most perfect tee shirt from Simply Vera by Vera Wang. The tee shirt has pre-rolled-up sleeves (I guess that technically makes it a tank) and is overlaid with a panel of metallic tulle. That little detail makes the shirt look much more expensive than it was and adds the perfect amount of shine to the ensemble.
For the icing on the cake (aka the accessories) I went all shine with a hinged silver cuff from Apt. 9, a statement necklace from Simply Vera by Vera Wang, and a black patent leather belt from Chaps.
But here’s the thing with me and spring trends … I want to wear those trends before the spring weather hits! So as a bonus, I added in a few layers so I could wear the trend right now.
For a pre-spring chill in the air (or for a chilly spring night) I added this amazing cardigan from Simply Vera by Vera Wang. How fabulous is the shoulder detail? It’s lovely satin material, which P.S. is totally on trend with the whole shine dealio we are discussing. If you are still cold or really impatient like I am, layer on this black boyfriend blazer from LC Lauren Conrad. I love how the cardigan sleeves poke out of the blazer!
So happy with this look and all of the cool little surprises that I found at Kohl’s. Seriously, I did not see those awesome shoes coming. Such a score. I am also 100% in love with the necklace from Simply Vera by Vera Wang – that piece is going to get a lot of use in my closet. Hooray for secret deals!
