Like many women, I struggle with body image issues. Working in the fashion industry isn’t exactly helpful when it comes to that issue. Day after day I see beautiful designer clothing that is designed to fit women with little to no curves. I can’t help but to want to shove my curves all up in that. It can be a bit crushing to the old self esteem when your size 4 body doesn’t quite fit into those European runway size 4 garments. Seriously. I have these crazy-sick Cavalli leather pants in my kit that really don’t want to make it over my ass. Try as I might, they just aren’t into it.
What’s a girl to do? I already workout 6 days a week and live a freakishly healthy semi-vegan (this girl needs some cheese in her life every now and then) lifestyle. Do I stop building muscle with my trainer and starve my T&A away? Not really into that – I get cranky when I’m hungry and I love having a strong body. So clearly what I have to do is accept the fact that I have an athletic build that isn’t built for those cookie cutter designer clothing that I love so much. Am I going to stop wearing designer clothes? Oh hell no!! I am going to do what I tell my clients to do … ignore sizes and tailor to fit. Having a great tailor is key to making your clothes work for you.
So with that two-paragraph moment of clarity out the way, I can get to what I really want to talk about … Workout clothes! Because I am embracing the awesome body that the gene pool doled out to me, I am going to continue to work it out and I’m going to do it in style. Style is definitely something that has been lacking in my workout wardrobe. Typically I roll out of bed at 6:30am for my 7am workout and throw on some baggy sweat pants and a workout tank. Pretty uninspiring. Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT one of those girls who works out with a full face of makeup and head-to-toe Lululemon (not that there is anything wrong with Lulu b/c I do love it). I go to work out. I sweat. I’m there to kick some ass. However, I wouldn’t mind kicking ass with a tad more style.
Coincidentally I’ve been on a styling job that involves workout wear, so I’ve been able to see everything that is out there. Here is what I am loving right now …
