I’m building up my cardigans/vests collection, and I’m often faced with the dilemma of what to wear underneath them! I know there’s always the tank-top option, like on the attached picture, but I’m looking for something dressier that I could wear to work. (I bought this silk/cotton mix cardigan today actually, and I love it! I know I’ll get lots of use out of it – if I can only figure what to wear with it!) 🙂
Ideally, the basic pieces would have short sleeves (as some of my cardigans have 3/4 or short sleeves) and would be made from thin fabrics that would not look too bulky underneath my delicate vests. I also love long tops. I find it’s often more flattering on me than mainstream shorter ones! I’m 5’4″, 115 lbs, and usually wear XS or S in tops, depending on the brand.
On another subject, is there a search function on askfashionkitty.com? It sure would be helpful if there was one, as it would allow your followers to do a search before seeking your advice on topics previously covered.
Let me address the second question, as of right now there is no search function on the site. There was but it has magically disappeared. It will be back once I get to the redesign, so hopefully that will come soon. Right now the best thing to do is to Google your inquiry with fashion kitty in your search. Pretty annoying but that’s the way it is for now.
Now, onto the fashion question.
My favorite top to wear underneath cardigan, actually comes from Target. The basics tees and tanks from Mossimo are amazing. They are dirt cheap, thin, long, and flattering. They come in tank, tees, v neck, short sleeve, and 3/4 sleeve. With the proper accessories you can dress them up in a snap. You can also get them in any freaking color of the rainbow without breaking the bank.
If you want to spend a little more money, Michael Stars is a good choice. The fit is great and some of his basics have the tiniest bit of oomph to dress up your look.
The last tip I have for you is just to try everything. If you are shopping in a boutique and trying on a cardigan, ask the sales associate to pick you a basic shell or tank to try with it. You might be surprised. There are some really random unknown brands out there that make an awesome tee/tank.
Thanks for the advice FK! Too bad Target does not ship to canada — Boohoo! I bought a few tees on tee-zone.com and most were on sale (1 Michael Stars, 1 LnA, 1 Monrow and 1 LA Made). Can’t wait to see how they fit (fingers crossed!).
