Dear Fashion Kitty, Fashion Show Advice

I am planning a fashion show the will showcase new designers. What are the different types of styles called, like I know we have high fashion, casual, and so forth. Also what are the most common style’s that buyers are interested in nowadays?

Ahhh, I remember the days of putting on fashion shows. I used to put together shows way back in high school, it was so fun! Although I have experience with this, this isn’t an easy question to answer but I’ll do my best.

First you have to identify your customer. That has to happen before you figure out what kinds of fashions you want to show (haute couture, ready-to-wear, sportswear, evening wear, swimwear, day dresses, tweens, juniors, career wear, contemporary. Think about your audiences age, income, location, etc …)

Once you figure out your target then you can pick your poison. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to show liquid leggings, spikes, and skimpy tops if your customer/ buyers are buying for women in their 40s, now does it?

After you have your fashion type chosen then you need to start styling. Make those clothes look good! Get the models looking right with great hair and makeup. And chose music that will keep the crowd interested. Fashion shows are short but bad music can make the go on and on and on.

What do the buyers want? That’s hard to say. If you put on a good show that is styled well then you have a good chance on impressing people. It would probably be in your best interest to pick up some trend reports and to hit up some trade shows to see what’s coming next … Buyers don’t want to see the same old stuff that they already bought last season.

Hope that was helpful and send pictures of your show once you put it on!
