Dear Fashion Kitty, Hollywod Hipster

I live in LA. Lately I’ve been hanging out in the downtown/silverlake scene, and I think my attire has become a bit too American Apparel/hipster. Just recently I started dating a guy who has a lot of in’s in Hollywood. When I went out last week in Hollywood, I swear I forgot how to be pretty and glamorous. I am stuck in a hipster/artsy rut, which as you know doesn’t quite cut the mustard in Hollywood. HELP!!!

So in order to fix my dilemma I went shopping. I bought this sweater:

However when I tried it on in the store–which had bad lighting, I was convinced I could wear it as a dress. Now that I have taken it home, I have come to find out it is way too see through to be worn as just a dress. So what do I do??

  1. Wear it as a dress with a slip under it? If so what shoes would you wear? Black tights, black ankle boots??
  2. Wear it as a tunic with leather pants?
  3. Wear it as a tunic with jeans and save it for another day (I just think jeans would make it look too casual for wear I am going).

Thanks for your help!

Hollywood Hipster

Admitting you have a problem is the first step, American Apparel is great and all but here in L.A. it’s like a full blown hipster epidemic …

The top you bought it pretty awesome, I love LaRok! Let’s break it down using the options you gave me.

  • Wear it as a dress with a slip under it? If so what shoes would you wear? Black tights, black ankle boots??

Depending on how long this shirt actually is on you — yes you could wear it a dress. A nice vintage cream colored slip that peeks out the bottom would be really fun.

Make sure the black tights are opaque, just grab a pair for $5 at Target. I can’t really picture ankle boots with this outfit but if those are the shoes that makes your legs look the best then go for it. I would either wear knee high black boots or a sexy pair of Mary Janes (5 inch heels) … if I were feeling really crazy I would wear these with the black tights.

To avoid making this look so black and white, add some funky earrings and a fun belt.

  • Wear it as a tunic with leather pants?

No. I am not down with leather pants right now and even if I were I think they would be too harsh for this top.

  • Wear it as a tunic with jeans and save it for another day (I just think jeans would make it look too casual for wear I am going).

You can wear it with jeans AFTER you wear it out and look fabulous 🙂
