Q- What’s a good company to find boots for people with wider calves?
A- Great question. I’ve recently spent a some time shopping for one of my clients who has wider calves, so I definitely have an answer for you.
Styles to Look For:
Depending on the width of your calves you can sometimes wear “normal” (what is normal anyways) boots if they fit a certain style criteria. Lace-up boots are a great option because you can adjust the lacing to accommodate your calves. Engineer boots also work well because they are cut wider than most boots.
Brands to Try:
DUO– my clients swear by this brand for fit and comfort.
Places to Shop:
Zappos– You can shop by calf size – wide and extra-wide.
Nordstrom– This is the best department store for shoes. Small feet, big feet, skinny calves, wide calves, small budget, big budget … Nordstrom has you covered.
Other Options …
Another option I recommend to my clients is this – if you find a boot you love that doesn’t fit your leg, simply hit up your shoe guy! Don’t have a shoe guy? Get one. A good cobbler can transform your shoes and some can even make custom shoes. A quality cobbler can add elastic to your boot shaft, can insert additional leather, and just get downright creative when it comes to making your shoes work for you.
My go-to place in LA is called Andre’s #1 Shoes – they make shoes for Price, Kiss, Lady Gaga, and every other celeb in the world that wear shoes.
